The Strategic Sport Communications Manager will drive communications across Football and other assigned Pac-12 sports, including primary responsibility for the promotion of Pac-12 teams, student-athletes and the Pac-12 as a whole in such sports through communications channels. The person in this role will possess a proven ability to develop strategic communications plans and tactical experience operationalizing such plans; proven ability to proactively generate positive publicity across all media; social and digital media expertise; an ability to create content that supports promotion; strong media relationships; extensive football communications experience; strong Football and other sport specific knowledge; a proven ability to utilize relevant data to make communications decisions; and a strong ability to identify and manage issues.

The Strategic Sport Communications Manager will have proven ability to work cross-functionally across teams. He/she must be a team player with a strong work ethic, great relationship skills, and high integrity. The position will report into the VP, Public Affairs and Head of Communications.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and execute strategic communications plans on a sport by sport basis based upon expert knowledge of such sports

Proactively promote teams, student-athletes and conference in specific sports, including generating positive publicity across all media

Serve as the communications expert in relevant sports with strong and deep knowledge of teams and student-athletes, including ability to harness such knowledge in support of NCAA selection processes

Football lead for promotion and public relations programs, including communications with the CFP Selection Committee

Manage public relations and media arrangements of the Pac-12 Football Championship Game

Oversee assigned Olympic Sports

Under the direction of the Director of Public Relations & Social Media, effectively utilize and leverage social and digital media channels to promote sports, including content creation and promotion across such channels

Develop content ideas and support content creation efforts to promote sports

Develop and maintain relationships with members of media in relevant sports and beyond in order to effectively generate positive coverage and manage issues

Utilize relevant and available data and analytics to inform communications strategy and tactics

Identify, manage and address issues and crises related to relevant sports

Develop strong relationships with and provide best-in-class service and best practices to both coaches and SIDs of member universities for relevant sports

Serve as liaison among relevant SIDs across 12-member universities related to information and announcements for relevant sports

Oversee and manage communications operations at Pac-12 events for relevant sports

Manage fellows/interns for relevant sports

Produce and edit media guides and other relevant communications publications

Create and publish content across host of channels, including Pac-12.com, with necessary understanding of basic CMS operations and HTML, among other digital platforms and products

Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum 10 years’ experience in the sports industry, in a strategic communications role

Excellent written and verbal communications skills, a diplomatic communicator and influencer

Extensive football communications experience required

Ability to create and build relationships with the media and Pac-12 campus administrators

High interest in intercollegiate athletics

Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of the team

Experienced people manager

Pro-active, results driven and motivated

Sense of urgency on the spot problem solver and dependable

Strong work ethic

Organized with an acute attention to detail

Honesty and transparency

Ability to travel, work weekends and evenings when needed

Willing and able to relocate to the Bay Area
