The UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC) is a research network comprised of scholars from across the University of California and the Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories who produce and use research to help build a more peaceful, prosperous world. Our focus is on challenges that have the potential to lead to wide-scale conflict, and that can benefit from global cooperation to solve. Our portfolio includes both traditional security issues—defense innovation, strategy and deterrence, nuclear weapons policy, and security cooperation—and emerging and non-traditional challenges such as environmental threats, geoeconomics and great power competition, and threats to democracy. In each of these areas, IGCC builds diverse, multidisciplinary research teams that analyze the causes and consequences of global conflict—and help develop practical solutions.


Under the direction of the IGCC Associate Director and Assistant Director for Programs and Operations, this position will coordinate programs, manage the IGCC office at the UC Washington Center, participate in strategic engagement, and provide fiscal support for IGCC programs including the Public Policy and Nuclear Threats (PPNT) Boot Camp, the Postdoctoral Program on Technology and International Security, and other programs as assigned. The position involves project analysis and makes contributions to the immediate academic and programmatic goals of IGCC programs; under supervision, the Program and Research Associate liaises with funding agencies, collaborators, and program constituents; executes large-scale, multi-disciplinary education/training, conferencing, and outreach efforts; works with principals, research staff, and visiting scholars on project needs; and provides assistance with special projects. This position is based in Washington, D.C. with a hybrid work schedule.


Responsibilities

Program Administration and Management (55%) - Participates in administrative program project planning and development; oversees the day-to-day operations of the program needs; interacts with research teams, developing and implementing procedures, communicating these procedures to team members, and documenting and archiving developed protocols.


Strategic Engagement (30%) - Researchers and identifies opportunities for engagement within the Washington, D.C. community, including think tanks, government agencies, and institutions of higher education. Assists with the development of a comprehensive public relations and communications plan for programs.


Program Financial Management (15%) - Performs budget analysis for programmatic activities within projects under the positions purview; assures efficient and accurate expenditures of programming funds; analyzes resources to assist Program Manager with financial planning; and ensures compliance with external and internal agencies in the administration of all fund sources.


Qualifications

  • Degree in International Relations, Political Science, Business Administration, Communications, or closely related field plus some post-degree experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Must be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Overtime and weekends may be required.


Hiring Pay Scale

$57,000 - $65,000/year
