GENERAL DESCRIPTION
MediaMKRS is a partnership between Reel Works and the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, the City University of New York, media companies and unions and to train, credential and prepare talented New Yorkers for careers in media and entertainment.
The MediaMKRS program was born out of a vision that to address the crisis of inclusion in the media industry, we need to build a consortium of educators, industry, labor, government and philanthropy to address systemic barriers and build pathways from classrooms to careers in the film and television industries. Additionally, MediaMKRS aims to provide an avenue for both traditional and non-traditional students with production experience and hands-on skills to more effectively demonstrate their skills and abilities to potential employers through digital credentials.

The Internship Coordinator will play a large role in accomplishing our mission. BIPOC, people with intersecting identities - LGBTQIA+, women and non-binary people, people living with disabilities and others with lived experience being part of marginalized communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Manager of Workforce and Professional Development, the MediaMKRS Internship Coordinator will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Support Program Participants -Recruit, place, and support internships annually for all MediaMKRS external partners. Touch base weekly with active interns to identify and evaluate their weekly goals and support monthly intern meetings for both internal and external interns. Coach participants and alumni in areas including but not limited to resume building, cover letter writing, application & scholarship submissions and career mapping.
- Engage Host Companies - Work closely with hiring managers to qualify, match, support and assess internship placements that are successful for both the youth and host companies. Manage administration, record keeping, payroll and reporting as required. When safety measures allow, conduct site visits for new host companies.
- Reporting & Assessment - Maintain up to date records on all participants. Survey and record outcomes from host companies. Support promotion of the program by documenting individual internship success stories and collecting feedback for reporting. Organize and maintain related career management systems.
- Workforce Readiness Training & Career Exploration - Coordinate the implementation of work readiness classes and professional development workshops. Assist in the coordination of career roundtables, field trips, workshops and additional post secondary programs to expose young people to careers in media as well as other enrichment opportunities that are available to them.
- Job Training Support: Assist with the recruitment life cycle for the MediaMKRS Job Training programs. Support post-program outcomes by coordinating participant placements in freelance jobs and internships.
- Additional Responsibilities: Compile MediaMKRS information for monthly newsletter and support with overall program promotion. Update the MediaMKRS Google calendar with events, classes, workshops, etc. and handle any appropriate responsibilities or functions, as assigned. Attend relevant professional development training and networking events.
CORE COMPETENCIES/QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Film, Television or Media/Communications. Equivalent combination of applicable training and experience may be substituted for education requirements.
- 2+ years of experience in employer relations, career development, media production or a related area.
- Experience working with BIPOC communities.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and project management skills. Must demonstrate the ability to manage timelines/deadlines and to achieve key milestones successfully.
- Should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Must be detail-oriented.
- Strong communicator with good interpersonal skills; comfortable establishing and building good, productive working relationships with a variety of people across all levels (executive to peers, industry, as well as internal and external stakeholders).
- Technology Savvy—Comfortable and familiar with technology including social media, web-based applications and data systems, and computers. Intermediate to advanced Google Docs/Forms/Sheets.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with barriers to employment.
- Existing relationships with employer contacts within the media industry.
- An understanding of the current career landscape within the media industry.
Physical Requirements
- We intend for this role to start off as remote, but eventually the Internship Coordinator will join the rest of our team in our Gowanus, Brooklyn office, once it is safe to do so.

MediaMKRS seeks an accomplished media professional to be our Work Readiness Instructor for our Career Exploration Program.
Responsibilities include:
- Class Preparation: Instructors are responsible for familiarizing themselves with the existing curriculum. We invite all our instructors to customize the curriculum to their strengths and bring forth ideas to improve the student experience and filmmaking outcomes. Instructors are also expected to work with the MediaMKRS staff to familiarize themselves with our online learning platform.
- Teaching: Media Workforce Readiness Instructor must lead effective, engaging workshops around preparing students for what an entry or second level job in media will require and how they contribute to the success of a company or production. The Instructor must be available to do blended online training and provide overall industry and career advice.
Qualifications
- Must be a professional in the media industry, which a focus on film and/or television production, ideal candidates are Producers, Assistant Directors, and Line Producers/Production Managers
- Experience with teaching teens and young adults
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Effective organizational and time-management skills
- Demonstrated experience in a team-based work environment
- Experience teaching using LMS
Salary: This is a part-time position that does not include health benefits. Hourly wage commensurate with experience in filmmaking, technical skills, teaching, and youth development.
