Job Description

Company Background + Culture

The Aubrey Group is a grants-based development consulting firm with offices in Elizabeth and Camden, New Jersey. Our team members are expert storytellers, precise writers, and big-picture thinkers. Our grants-based development department offers public policy research, grant writing, and grant program development services to public entities, nonprofits, and private businesses. Formed in 2015, The Aubrey Group is quickly expanding with a reputation for high-caliber consulting services grounded in the values of kindness, curiosity, and diligence.

At the Aubrey Group, our team creates content for and facilitates the submission of competitive funding proposals, licensure processes, and tax credit applications. Our clients are working on the front lines of urban development and rural preservation. The problems that they face are interesting and important, and our consultants are passionate about helping them design and fund innovative solutions.

We understand our work on individual projects in connection to the big picture – who we are as a country and a community, what we owe to each other, and how we can work together to accomplish our shared goals. We see our time spent on work as an important piece of our overall fulfillment, and we strive to build a workplace that enriches, challenges, and supports every member of our team. We do our best to balance having high aspirations and expectations of each other with the humility and grace that allows us to understand that we are not perfect. We have an understanding amongst our team that no one “gets in trouble” for making a mistake: only for concealing one, or refusing to take responsibility. We see it as our shared responsibility to learn from and help each other.

Diversity Statement

Our firm believes that building diversity into the foundation of how we do business creates a more fulfilling workplace and allows us to better serve our clients. We take responsibility for developing a workplace that is attractive to, and supportive of, individuals from diverse backgrounds. This includes, but is not limited to, people of color, people who have experiences with disability, LGBTQ folks, people with experiences with immigration, those who honor diverse religious traditions, and individuals from poor and working-class backgrounds. We also value diversity of professional, educational, and technical backgrounds. We don’t believe in the “perfect candidate” - even if you might be missing a certain criterion listed above, you may still be a great fit for the role. We strongly encourage you to apply for this position if you meet most of the criteria in the above description. The Aubrey Group understands that you might offer strengths and draw from atypical professional experiences that can make you a great candidate. Likewise, if you see a potential fit for yourself on our team, but this specific position description isn't the best fit for you, we’d like to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Leadership and Strategy:

  • Develop and oversee donor engagement frameworks, cases for support, stewardship plans, and communications that elevate donor relationships and enhance giving potential.
  • Provide expert insight into donor segmentation, pipeline management, and major gift cultivation, ensuring strategies are measurable, sustainable, and mission-driven.

Operational and Systems Leadership:

  • Coordinate and oversee the execution of client projects across departments, ensuring all deliverables meet high standards of quality, timeliness, and client satisfaction.
  • Advise clients on the selection, implementation, and use of CRM and donor database systems to optimize data integrity, tracking, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with internal colleagues to develop tools, templates, and resources that enhance efficiency and elevate The Aubrey Group’s overall client service model.

Mentorship and Training:

  • Mentor The Aubrey Group staff, offering coaching and skill development in fundraising strategy, donor engagement, and client service best practices.
  • Lead workshops, training sessions, and individualized coaching engagements for nonprofit clients to help them strengthen internal fundraising operations and build long-term sustainability.
  • Provide transition planning guidance to clients as they move from consulting partnerships to independent, in-house development capacity.
  • Foster a culture of shared learning and excellence by modeling best practices, clear communication, and an unwavering commitment to professional growth.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of nonprofit and donor development experience, preferably across diverse projects.
  • Proven track record of achieving fundraising goals and cultivating major gifts.
  • Knowledge of an experience with donor database systems, communications and mass email platforms, and online giving technologies.
  • Understanding of current trends, with an ability to recommend and implement plans to increase donors, contributions, and identify new opportunities.
  • Exemplary time management skills, including the capacity to juggle competing priorities and deadlines, and to remain flexible within a fast-paced environment.
  • Pride in the accuracy and presentation of your work.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit development principles, trends, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire donors and team members.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate goals into actionable plans.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to motivate and lead a high-performing team.
  • Travel and the ability to attend in-person donor meetings are required.

Organizational Values Alignment:

  • Share values of kindness, curiosity, and diligence.
  • Embrace diversity for more creative and insightful thinking.
  • Be a creative thought leader and collaborative negotiator.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of building a workplace community that is welcoming to individuals of diverse backgrounds and identities.

Benefits:

  • 401k program with up to 4% employer match.
  • Employer-paid QSEHRA (pre-tax health benefit reimbursement) program.
  • Unlimited promotion opportunities in a women-owned small business.
  • Company-paid professional development, networking, and volunteer opportunities.
