Position Title:         Assistant Manager/Manager – Family Engagement

Department:    Early Childhood Access and Engagement

Reports To:             Senior Manager, Early Childhood Access and Engagement

Category:                Full-time: 37.5 hours per week


About Thrive Birth to Five: Thrive Birth to Five (TB5) has been the early childhood systems building organization in the Richmond Region since 2007 and was designated Ready Region Central by the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation and the Virginia Department of Education. TB5’s regional early childhood coalition convenes 125+ diverse public and private organizations to work collectively to ensure all children are ready to succeed in school, work, and life. Partners include childcare entities, school systems, state and local government, nonprofit and philanthropic organizations, and local businesses. Our region includes the counties of Charles City, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Greensville, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, Powhatan, Prince George, Surry, and Sussex counties, as well as the cities of Colonial Heights, Emporia, Hopewell, Petersburg, and Richmond.


About this role: The Assistant Manager/Manger of Family Engagement leads our regional family engagement strategy. This position will build leadership capacity in families; gather family feedback, use data to improve services, and help ensure early childhood systems are equitable and responsive to family needs.



Among the primary duties of the Assistant Manager/Manager, Family Engagement:  


Build Family Leadership

  • Recruit, develop, and support a diverse, representative Family Council that serves as a strategic partner in regional early childhood systems planning and decision-making.
  • Collaboratively design, implement and evaluate Ready Region Central’s Family Engagement Plan
  • Design and facilitate engaging virtual and/or in-person Family Council meetings
  • Build the leadership capacity of families to serve as advocates and champions for high-quality early childhood care and education
  • Create opportunities for families to influence early childhood policies, programs, and funding priorities
  • Partner across the Thrive Birth to Five team to embed family voice and experience into strategic planning,
  • Support Virginia Promise Partnership, by ensuring representation from Ready Region Central
  • Represent Thrive Birth to Five at community events


Use Data to Drive Improvement

  • Lead the implementation of Ready Region Central’s Family Engagement Self-Assessment in partnership with the Family Council to identify strengths, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Collect and analyze family feedback through surveys and other tools.
  • Monitor participation trends and identify barriers to engagement
  • Translate data into family friendly resources
  • Maintain accurate documentation of Family Council participation and engagement activities.



Lead Family Engagement and Information Strategies

  • Develop and implement outreach strategies that increase family awareness of high-quality early childhood opportunities, including Virginia Birth to Five Quality Ratings, preschool enrollment, child care subsidy and other early childhood resources.
  • Build partnerships with community organizations  
  • Maintain family-centered resource information that connects families with community services.


Education/Experience/Skills/Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in human services, Social Work, Education, Public Administration, Public Health, Nonprofit Management, or related field.
  • Three to five years of experience in family engagement, community engagement, early childhood, education, nonprofit leadership, or related field.

Hiring range: $52,000-$65,000


The position is eligible for a competitive salary and benefits package, including health and dental insurance with generous employer contributions, employer paid short-term and long-term disability and life insurance. Accrued vacation up to 20 days per full year. Hybrid work is an option after a training period, up to two days per week.


Anticipated start date: September 2026
