Associate Counsel, Player Matters

Position Summary:
To assist in all matters handled by the Legal Department related to NBA players and administration of the game, including items related to:
Administration and enforcement of NBA rules
Analysis/advice regarding the Salary Cap and other facets of the NBA/NBPA Collective Bargaining Agreement
Management of processes related to trades
Free agency and other related matters
Collective bargaining with the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA)
Support of basketball operations initiatives
Major Responsibilities:
Assist with processes related to trades, the NBA Draft, advice regarding the NBA/NBPA Collective Bargaining Agreement, and player contract management
Draft memos to NBA teams regarding the Salary Cap and other player matters
Assist with various facets of NBA rules enforcement, including investigations and related internal and external communications
Support legal team on all matters related to collective bargaining
Provide legal support for the basketball operations department with respect to various initiatives, playing rules issues, and competitive matters
Provide advice and assistance with other issues related to NBA teams and players in support of the Legal Department
Required Skills/Knowledge:
Excellent record of academic and professional achievement
2-5 years of experience at a law firm and/or in-house legal department
Excellent analytical, writing, and oral presentation skills
Organizational and project management skills necessary to support and advise legal and business units and ensure projects are completed in a timely and effective manner
High level of commitment to quality work product and organizational ethics, integrity, and compliance
Strong familiarity with NBA game, teams, and players a plus
Education:
Law degree and bar admission
