Job Description

About Krambo Corporation

Krambo Corporation has spent the last fifteen years doing one thing: getting institutional capital – the kind that usually flows to Fortune 500 companies – into non-profits and similar mission-driven organizations. Our boutique firm has placed billions of dollars in financing since 1966. All of Krambo’s financing transactions are placed with institutional investors (e.g., banks, insurance companies) at below-market rates which, in turn, allows its affordable housing clients to make mortgage loans to lower income households at below market rates and its other non-profit clients to do more with less capital.

In a typical transaction, Krambo arranges the sale or securitization of a pool of mortgage loans; the proceeds fund the next round of affordable mortgages, creating a cycle that accelerates the production and financing of affordable homes year over year. To place these transactions, Krambo prepares private placement memoranda (PPMs): rigorous, detailed documents that describe a borrowing entity and the terms of its financing in enough depth and precision for a financial institution's credit analyst to make a lending decision. Producing a PPM demands precise language, dense analysis, close collaboration with both colleagues and clients, and close attention to the securities laws governing private placements.

Position Overview

The Team Member will work within this process, initially supporting Krambo's Transaction Management team in the development of PPMs : assisting with the analysis, writing, and assembly of the materials Krambo brings to financial institutions on behalf of its clients. This is an exceptionally collaborative role: very little is done alone. Drafts are reviewed by the team and then by a principal. The Team Member will also support day-to-day communication with clients, representing Krambo in a professional and helpful manner.

An Entry Point into the Firm

This role is designed as an entry point into the firm, not a fixed lane. The Team Member will start within Transaction Management, working closely with the team that produces Krambo's PPMs, and will also be exposed to Krambo's other functions – Client Relations, Investor Relations, Legal Affairs, and Operations. That exposure is intentional: it gives the Team Member, and the firm, a real basis for determining where they are best suited to grow, and lays the groundwork for advancement within whichever division proves the best fit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and integrating financial data into financial models
  • Technical writing: translating complex financial and organizational information into clear, precise, credit-ready language
  • Managing the flow of client documents into a secure, organized transaction record
  • Applying quality control to PPMs so they are error-free and client-ready.
  • Performing research and reviewing various agreements related to each transaction to ensure well-supported due diligence
  • Building strong client relationships through timely, professional communication and follow-through

Qualifications

Essential (weighted equally)

  • Exceptional intellectual ability and curiosity: evidenced by superior analytical ability and a demonstrated record of academic, professional, or other achievement; and intellectual curiosity reflected in how the work gets done – asking questions, verifying rather than assuming, and pushing to improve the product, not just complete it.
  • An extraordinary command of written English and fluency in Word: the ability to organize complex information into writing that is precise, concise, and unmistakably clear, paired with a relentless pursuit of excellence in the work itself.

Also Important

  • Genuine interest in, or experience with, affordable housing and community development – this is mission-driven work, and Krambo looks for people who are fully aligned with the mission of the clients it serves.
  • A graduate degree is a plus, though not a requirement.

Technical Background (Preferred but not Required)

Krambo has a strong track record of training exceptional people from outside the field (one of the firm's strongest performers came to Krambo from a background in classical music performance and teaching, not finance). Formal experience in accounting, law, banking, or real property transactions is not required; the firm is willing to invest in training the right candidate.

  • Familiarity with accounting, financial statements, and discounting is a plus
  • Proficiency in Excel is a plus
  • 1–2 years of relevant work experience is a plus

Additional Details

  • Some short domestic travel to visit clients should be expected
  • Compensation is commensurate with experience and capability
  • Benefits include paid vacation, holidays, and personal days; 401(k) matching; a medical reimbursement plan (usable toward insurance premiums and other medical expenses); life insurance; and long-term disability insurance
  • Because we’re a FINRA-registered broker dealer firm, candidates for this role will need to complete a background check as part of our hiring process. Individuals subject to FINRA registration requirements (including non-registered associated persons) may also need to complete fingerprinting as part of the onboarding process. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing any required background screening and regulatory requirements.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring employment sponsorship now or in the future. We are unable to provide employment-based visa sponsorship for this position.
