Position Title: Campaign Manager, Rent-Regulated Housing

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $52,000, good benefits package


Description:

Good Old Lower East Side is a community based organization dedicated to keeping people in their homes and community since 1977. GOLES works to build the power of low-income residents through housing and economic justice organizing campaigns, community education, and direct services counseling. We are seeking a motivated and experienced Campaign Manager to work as part of a team to build power and leadership among low-income rent-regulated tenants with a focus on tenants in buildings owned or targeted for purchase by predatory landlords.


Specific responsibilities and duties include:

  • Engage rent-regulated residents and allies in actions, events, and campaigns
  • Organize and provide technical assistance and support to Tenant Associations
  • Conduct outreach through door knocking, phone banking, tabling, mailings, etc.
  • Help to ensure that activities meet grant requirements and timelines 
  • Counsel a limited number of tenants
  • Build and collaborate strategically with local, city, and state-wide campaigns
  • Work on organizational and special projects, events, and campaigns as needed
  • Represent GOLES in city and statewide coalitions


Core Responsibilities

  • Strategically build and see through campaigns to further tenant rights and protections
  • Build and maintain a rent-regulated membership base and steering committee
  • Collaborate with the organizing team to develop organizational base-building and membership recruitment strategies
  • Stay up to date on relevant rent-regulated and housing policies and programs
  • Work in coalition with other community organizations, institutions and elected officials on various campaigns and projects
  • Coordinate and lead community meetings, workshops and events both virtually and in-person
  • Maintain requisite reporting for funding sources
  • Create and translate materials such as fliers, mailings, newsletter articles, etc.
  • Support and advance overall organizational mission as part of a team
  • Work with Communications Team on press releases, social media, and other communications items


Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to social, economic, and racial justice
  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
  • 2+ years experience in community organizing with low-income populations, including door-to-door, phone, and street outreach
  • Experience working with racially and culturally diverse communities
  • Knowledge of NYC rent laws
  • Strong coordination, facilitation, and campaign planning skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, good writing and computer skills, and ability to work under deadline pressure in a fast paced office setting
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Chinese preferred
