Job Description
The Law Offices of Al Hofeld Jr. is a Chicago-based civil rights law firm dedicated to securing justice for our clients, holding the powerful to account, and catalyzing systemic change. Our focus includes police excessive force, wrongful conviction, wrongful death, prisoner rights, and advocacy for children whose civil rights have been violated by police or school officials.
We are seeking a highly qualified, full-time Associate Attorney. The Attorney will work on all aspects of litigation across the firm’s practice areas from case evaluation, investigation, and filing through discovery, motion practice, and trial. Prior experience litigating civil rights cases is helpful but not required. At least one to two years’ legal experience (including judicial clerkships and/or public-interest fellowships) is preferred but not required. Applicants with significantly more experience, including those seeking to transition from Big Law, are also encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will have:
- Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytic skills
- Proven commitment to civil rights and/or public interest law
- Proven ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, orally and in writing
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to successfully manage multiple, complex cases/projects to completion simultaneously

The position will remain open until filled with a start date to follow soon thereafter. Admission to the Illinois Bar or eligibility to waive-in to the Illinois bar is required. Generally, this is an in-office position with potential flexibility to work remotely if/when necessary. Compensation commensurate with experience (anticipated range: $70,000 to $100,000) plus benefits, including fully paid employee health coverage and generous time off.
