Nature of Work

This is responsible work creating, sharing, and/or exchanging information and content to advance the District 4 Commissioner’s Office messaging and outreach. An employee in this classification is responsible for creating content; distributing information designed to keep the public informed of the programs, events, accomplishments, and activities of the Commissioner’s Office; covering events; and coordinating with the City of Miami Office of Communications. This job is not of a routine clerical or ministerial nature and requires the exercise of independent judgment. An employee in this classification will be under the general supervision of the Director of Communications for the Commissioner’s Office.

Essential Functions

Duties include, but are not limited to: covering community events; creating innovative and engaging social media content, graphics, short-form video, and postings for different platforms (e.g. Reels, YouTube Shorts, Instagram, etc.); managing social media scheduling using platforms such as Later and Sprout Social; designing flyers, graphics, and branded templates for campaigns and events; drafting e-mail newsletters, outreach messages, and community updates; attending meetings to gather information on events/services; assisting with press releases, media statements, and general media relations; ensuring and maintaining consistency across all communications platforms; collaborating with the City of Miami Office of Communications on joint initiatives; and performing other related duties, as required.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field and a minimum of two (2) years of relevant communications, media, or outreach experience. Experience working in the public sector or government organization is preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

A Valid Driver's License from any state (Equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized upon application, however prior to appointment a State of Florida Driver's License (Class E or higher) must be presented to the Department of Human Resources and must be maintained valid throughout employment.

NOTE:

Must have reliable transportation in order to attend events throughout the City of Miami.

Must be willing to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Official/unofficial transcripts are also accepted. If submitting transcripts, transcripts must include the following: student's name, school name, number of credits, degree completion, and major. Audit/Academic reports are not accepted as substitutions for college transcripts.

Foreign diplomas/degrees must be submitted with a credential evaluation report from an approved credential evaluation agency*.Translations of diploma/degrees are not accepted. If degree/diploma does not reflect the academic major on its face, transcripts indicating degree completion must be submitted. Audit/Academic reports are not accepted as substitutions for college transcripts.

  • Approved Credential Evaluation Agencies:

Credential evaluation reports showing the United States equivalency for academic credentials earned in other countries may be provided by:

  • An accredited four-year college or university in the United States, OR
  • A current member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services ( NACES ),OR
  • A current member of the Association of International Credential Evaluators ( AICE ),OR
  • A recognized Professional Organization
