Job Description
Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost, Co-chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC), is seeking an experienced, highly creative Communications Director for his Washington, D.C. office.
Candidates must have exceptional writing and organizational skills, be very detail oriented, and enjoy working in a team environment and managing a talented and aggressive communications team. The ideal candidate will have experience working on Capitol Hill, familiarity with Florida politics and the Congressman’s district, and have the ability to balance competing demands while achieving communications wins in creative and untraditional ways. Understanding of House Franking rules is a plus.
The position requires a willingness to work non-traditional hours when required. This is not an entry level position. A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant Capitol Hill, administration, or campaign communication experience strongly preferred. Florida ties and/or fluency in Spanish are pluses.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Managing and mentoring a communications team consisting of a Creative Director, Press Secretary, and rotating Digital Fellow;
- Developing and executing the office’s communications strategy including national, state, and local press, messaging, events, and digital;
- Working to advance the Congressman’s priorities as a Co-chair of the DPCC, to improve communications messaging and strategies at a caucus-wide level;
- Working directly with the Congressman to prepare and staff him for interviews, speeches, press conferences, public events, roundtables, town halls, and other opportunities;
- Creating and leveraging opportunities in digital, print, and broadcast media as well as new media;
- Drafting written materials including press statements, quotes, remarks, op-eds, press releases and advisories, and talking points often time with very quick turn arounds;
- Working with the Communications team to designing creative plans to effectively roll out legislation, letters, and any/all policy or service initiatives that include press components, and events;
- Jointly overseeing online and social media communications program including the creation of digital ads and graphics, and website management alongside the Creative Director;
- Working collaboratively with the District Office to ensure a strong local media and digital presence, and to support outreach efforts;
- Collaborating with the Legislative team on policy rollouts and editing written products.
Salary for this position is $100,000-$110,000 per year.
