Congresswoman Emily Randall is seeking a proactive, strategic, and creative Communications Director in her DC office to lead all communications and public messaging efforts, with a strong focus on digital content creation, audience growth, and innovative storytelling. The ideal candidate is a skilled writer, digital strategist, and manager of people and projects, who can elevate the Member’s voice across platforms and build a cohesive communications program that reaches constituents, press, and national audiences, who can simplify “DC language” to connect with the most amount of people.

Job Expectations:
The Communications Director, primarily based in the Washington, D.C. office, is expected to work closely with the Chief of Staff, Legislative Director, District Director, as well as communications team members, to develop and execute a coordinated plan to inform constituents and the media on issues that are important to the Member. The Communications Director will manage review, draft, and finalize all statements, press releases, media advisories, and digital communications.
Job Duties:
● Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy that advances the Member’s legislative and district priorities across earned, owned, and paid media (franking)
● Serve as primary spokesperson for the Member and manage national and local press strategy
● Lead a digital-forward content operation that includes daily social media content, videos, infographics, newsletters, website updates, paid ads and cutting edge digital tools
● Oversee proactive press planning and rapid response to breaking news, including writing press releases, op-eds, speeches, talking points, and floor statements
● Coordinate media appearances and interviews, prepping the Member as needed.
● Supervise and nurture the talent of communications staff, fellows, and/or interns
● Collaborate actively with the legislative and district teams to ensure cohesive messaging on constituent services, policy rollouts, and district events.
Job Duties (continued):
● Monitor media trends, political developments, and emerging narratives to inform messaging
● Ensure all content is ADA compliant and aligned with House ethics and communication rules
Requirements:
● Minimum 4 years of communications experience, including on Capitol Hill, political campaigns, issue advocacy, or journalism
● Demonstrated success managing digital platforms (especially Bluesky, Twitter/X, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube) to grow engagement and reach
● Exceptional writing and editing skills—must be able to write clear, compelling, and on-message content quickly and under pressure
● Experience with digital tools and platforms like Canva, Adobe; ease in learning and implementing new tools
● Knowledge of video and visual storytelling, including short-form video for social media
● Strong understanding of media cycles, digital best practices, and the evolving news landscape
● Ability to work collaboratively as a team, managing up down and sideways as appropriate and necessary
Bonuses:
● Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field
● Ties to Washington state / Experience in Washington state politics (an eagerness to proactively learn the district is required!)
● Experience placing digital ads and/or managing relationships with buyers

Compensation:
$95,000 - $115,000, commensurate with experience.
