Are you looking to work on a team that’s making an impact in the Sacramento region? As the Communications Intern at the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG), you’ll get hands-on experience crafting and telling stories that matter. Get creative with the Government & Public Affairs team and learn how to work across groups and specialties to develop content that engages a wide range of audiences over the next 12 months. We are seeking candidates who are interested in gaining experience in content development (such as graphic design, video, and written stories), newsletter development, website management, social media, analytics, external relations, outreach, and events. Hybrid PositionAs an integral part of our organization, employees will provide support in a flexible work environment. The hours are flexible and will average 20 hours per week. Telework is available but the intern would also need to be in person at SACOG’s office in downtown Sacramento for 50% of working hours. Employees are required to live within 200 miles of Sacramento. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
As the Communications intern, you will get broad experience working with an outreach team in a government agency. You will get hands-on experience in crafting stories and content that help the agency reach its goals. Some of your main responsibilities include: Help create content in the form of written content, graphic design, videos, and reels to expand the reach of newsletter and program information. Includes developing new ideas for the website and social media. Support communications and external affairs teams by tracking outreach activities, inputting data, and creating analytics reports. General support of the team including research, participating in tasks for special events, media outreach, and website maintenance. Attend meetings, take and summarize notes from meetings.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Interns must be actively enrolled in relevant coursework in an undergraduate or graduate program.No experience required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle and to visit various meeting sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 25 pounds.ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTSThis is primarily a sedentary classification and the employee works in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. The employee interfaces with staff, management, other agency representatives, member jurisdictions, government officials, business representatives, and the general public in explaining SACOG policies and requesting and providing information.
