Job Description

Romemu Brooklyn Background

Romemu Brooklyn seeks an awesome full-time, high-energy, go-getting Administrative & Community Coordinator to help build our burgeoning spiritual community through excellence in operations, administration, clergy support, event planning/management, audacious hospitality, and community member engagement.

Romemu Brooklyn currently meets one Friday evening and one Shabbat morning each month in addition to High Holy Days for services and other Jewish holiday and community celebrations. In a word, Romemu services are neo-hasidic - both ecstatic and contemplative, inclusive and egalitarian, and wonderfully musical. We have been gathering in the Park Slope and Prospect Heights neighborhoods in non-traditional venues as we search for more permanent space for our growing community.

We are also cultivating meaningful relationships within and across different communities that are gathering as part of Romemu Brooklyn, such as our Queer Kehillah and our Bnei Mitzvah families, and expanding our community partnerships, such as our friendship with an AME Church in Crown Heights.

Role Description

The Romemu Brooklyn Administrative & Community Coordinator will work with clergy and volunteers in taking Romemu Brooklyn to the next level through:

  • Soup-to-nuts operations planning and on-site coordination of Shabbat services, High Holy Days, B Mitzvah classes and services, adult learning, and other community programs, following established practices and making as-needed improvements.
  • Performance of all administrative tasks, from being the clergy’s right-hand person to producing programs for services to ordering supplies to maintaining budget spreadsheets to updating the website etc.
  • Support of volunteer management.
  • Reliable and inviting interactions with members of the community, ensuring follow up by the appropriate Romemu Brooklyn team member.
  • Bringing the “on the ground” perspective to planning discussions to make things go as smoothly as possible and to streamline costs and effort.

Are you:

  • Organized, planful, reliable, thorough, resourceful, and responsive?
  • Energetic, cool-under-pressure, resilient, and optimistic?
  • Creative, curious, and collaborative?
  • Someone who does what it takes? Who sees each experience as a learning opportunity and pursues continuous improvement? Who simultaneously keeps the big picture in mind while tending to the smallest details, appreciating that small things can make a big difference to people’s experiences?
  • An energetic can-doer who gets fulfillment from seeing things through from start to finish, from pulling off large-scale events to managing to a zero inbox? Who sees no task as too big or too small to achieve the goal? Who is willing and able to haul event supplies, equipment, and boxes, and help set up spaces?
  • A people-person who’s passionate about community building, excited about Romemu being in Brooklyn? Motivated by knowing you will be a key player in our growth and success?
  • Technically proficient, using tech tools to make work more efficient and effective?
  • Interested in working full-time, some of which will happen during typical Monday-Friday work hours and some of which will happen on Jewish holidays, Shabbat, Sundays and evenings as needed?
