POSITION SUMMARY:
The Community Giving Manager works within the Development & Communications Division to increase philanthropic resources for the agency. The position serves under the leadership of the Director of Development & Communications (Director) and works in coordination with other Development Managers and teams.
The Community Giving Manager will lead a team of multiple staff to plan, implement and manage a comprehensive annual giving program with a focus on retaining and increasing the number of individual and corporate donors and supporters. Key components of their work in the first year will be developing a comprehensive Major Gifts program at IRCO and overseeing the operationalization of key fund development activities through improved written procedures. Essential duties of this position include:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work with the Director to develop and manage annual and multi-year giving plans and corresponding budgets. Work closely with Director and other Executive Leadership to engage Board members and increase revenue. Ensure that targeted campaigns meet agreed upon goals; provide regular reporting to Director on campaign activities.
- Lead a Community Giving team that creates and nurtures strong, interpersonal relationships with prospective donors and sponsors across multiple industries. Ensure IRCO maintains and builds on existing relationships with individual and corporate donors, including acknowledgment and recognition. Manage donor solicitation and cultivation plans carried out through prospect identification and by assigning and documenting relationship building steps.
- Work with Communications Manager to co-manage agency Events Coordinator position and provide overall guidance to agency-wide annual fundraising gala and other fundraising events with a focus on soliciting major donors for pre-commitments and coordinating solicitations and sponsorships.
- Work with Director, Community Giving Team, and Contracts and Fiscal Departments on monitoring fundraising budget, report on relevant financial matters and provide relevant and timely reports.
- Work closely with Director to set and accomplish key performance indicators (e.g., donor retention, cultivation/stewardship, non-event-based solicitations, donor connections, and leadership giver to multi-year pledge conversion) that demonstrate stronger individual and corporate philanthropic relationships.
- Plan and implement donor communications and messaging to maintain and enhance relationships and inspire future giving.
- Provide input and contribute to content shared on agency messaging channels like agency website and social media channels.
- Lead fundraising-related team activities such as in-kind donations, merchandise ordering/sales/inventory.
- Work with Volunteer Manager to co-manage the New Beginnings Market Coordinator and operations and work collaboratively to facilitate community partnerships and volunteer engagement opportunities at the site. This will include playing a leadership role in overseeing the New Beginnings Market Coordinator in managing associated budgets and staffing plans.
- Engage IRCO's Facilities Team in maintaining site and consistently revisiting safety procedures and protocol at the Market.
- Work collaboratively with other Development leadership in documenting, maintaining, gathering, and communicating financial and constituent data.
- Provide vision and collaborative oversight in developing, maintaining, and improving key data systems like our Donor Perfect database. Oversee and support donation processing, gift acknowledgement and inputting of donor relations/stewardship notes.
STAFF MANAGEMENT
- Hire, train, manage and support a team of multiple staff (some of which are collaboratively supervised by other Development leadership). This includes positions like the Events Coordinator, Development Data Lead, Development Associate, New Beginnings Market Coordinator and other administrative and/or community giving staff.
- Management duties include giving staff annual performance reviews, reviewing/approving timesheets and overseeing the submission of required human resources and fiscal documentation.
- Plan, convene, and implement team-wide meetings, professional development activities, and retreats to operationally strategize and strategically plan.
- Drive continuous improvement processes to enhance team efficiency, improve operational systems, and increase productivity,
- Oversee all team’s projects, which may include meetings, setting and monitoring deadlines, monitoring and redistributing workload, facilitating communications, and updating Director on team progress when needed.
- Provide technical assistance, training, and coaching on tools and technical processes.
- Lead development, revision, and maintenance of key operational procedures to ensure each team member’s day to day duties and “key steps” to carry those out are transparent and consistent. Review and revise draft work products on key projects for consistency, accuracy, and quality.
- Co-lead in Development Leadership planning meetings, activities, and retreats to drive cross team collaboration. Set common and measurable goals that complement other Development Teams’ strategies within the Department.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
- Work with the Director in developing tools and strategies to educate and inform agency staff on the role of fundraising and networking.
- Promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization.
- Represent the organization in public forums and events.
- Perform research, analysis, and statistical support for special projects when requested.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and committees to support IRCO’s strategic goals and objectives.
JOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position as qualifying. This would typically include:
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent experience, and 5-6 years of experience which could include a combination of 3-4 years managing departments or projects and 2-3 years of people management experience.
- Able to work effectively with diverse people and inspire others to perform efficiently.
- Preference is for someone with lived experience as and/or who has strong ties to immigrant, refugee, and/or communities of color in Portland.
- Must be able to demonstrate an established track record of success in fundraising including experience in solicitation.
- Fluency in English with superior written communication skills with the ability to target communications to diverse audiences required.
- Must be adept at developing & fostering relationships both internally and externally with the various constituencies.
- Professional customer service and office etiquette skills required.
- Familiar with principles of employee relations, non-profits, professional accountability, strategic planning, fundraising program development and implementation.

Computers: All positions at IRCO require use of a computer and experience working with Microsoft
Products including but not limited to Microsoft 365, Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint. In addition, this position specifically requires social media, fundraising and events/ticketing software.
