Job Description
Job Title: Community Manager
Compensation: $25/hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:45am to 5:15pm
About The Pearl Works
The Pearl Works is more than just a place to work, we are a community where people connect, grow, and do meaningful work. The Community Operations Manager acts as a host and facilitator for an ecosystem of visionaries, remote specialists, authors, engineers and remote workers who choose to root in our space. At its core, this role is about weaving possibilities through invitation, actively creating a culture that others want to be part of, and transforming a shared workspace into a place of belonging.
Mission and Vision:
The Pearl Works is rooted in the belief that meaningful work and community are not separate. We believe that the best businesses are born through relationships, and that physical work environments are places where people grow alongside one another.
We cultivate refreshingly human spaces where professionals can work, connect, and grow.
Core Responsibilities
Community Facilitation & Relational Weaving
- Event Design & Facilitation: Design, schedule, and facilitate regular community gatherings, including Skill Shares, member-led Workshops, Monthly Member Lunches, and Cozy Beverage Breaks, to create opportunities for connection.
- Member Connections: Understand what is relevant for members (their roadblocks, growth edges, and victories) to facilitate warm, intentional introductions that spark collaboration.
- Intentional Engagement: Ability to guide others and move past standard routine connections to invite more authentic relationships.
- Relational Sales: Facilitate prospective member tours rooted in relational selling; acting as a guide who listens deeply to needs and makes connections rather than pushing a transaction.
- Facilitate Belonging: Create opportunities that give new members a sense of agency and contribution, including handwritten welcome and anniversary cards, lighthearted member photos, and context-supported community introductions.
- Community Outreach & Partnership Building: Create connections in the broader community to connect with aligned businesses for reciprocal partnerships and referrals.
Ecosystem Stewardship
- Curating the Vibe: Foster a productive and pleasant ecosystem by managing the daily sensory rhythms of the space.
- Mindful Maintenance: Steward the physical space by providing daily, responsive care to the kitchen, flex desks, and phone booths, ensuring members have a beautiful, reliable environment for deep focus. Creatively restock the center island trail mix, seasonal farmers market fruits, and wholesale local coffee and tea to provide ongoing nourishment for the community.
- Property Management: When something in the physical environment needs attention, coordinate with vendors to ensure prompt resolution.
Compassionate Boundary Facilitation
- Conflict as Connection: Approach operational friction (such as loud phone calls in shared zones or unbooked meeting room use) as an opportunity to build trust.
- Grounded Authority: Protect the predictability and integrity of the ecosystem by redirecting and addressing problems as they come up.
Qualities We are looking for
- Grounded Energetic Presence: Candidates must prioritize steady stewardship over frantic productivity, demonstrating the ability to self-regulate and step away to reset when overwhelmed. They should naturally anchor the room rather than adding nervous energy to it.
- Curious: The instinct to ask open-ended questions, relating to people with care and presence.
- Generous Interpretation: Assuming positive intent when space guidelines are crossed and the ability to work as a team in a collaborative, positive way. They must be capable of de-escalating awkward moments by validating a member's underlying needs.
- Sensory and Environmental Awareness: Strong candidates will notice shifts in the room's needs, music volume, or cleanliness without needing to be told. They should find satisfaction in the daily mindful care of shared spaces.
- Creative Facilitation: Someone who models openness during community events and in interactions. They should have leadership and facilitating experience or improv games and creative group activities.
- Relational awareness: The intuition to act as a collaborator with members, tracking what is needed.
- Skilled at Navigating Rules: The candidate must be able to hold firm operational boundaries while treating everyone with a baseline of eye contact, respect, and peer-to-peer communication.
- Relationship-Based Sales: Ability to match what The Pearl Works offers with what a person needs authentically and allow relationships to guide sales.
- Adaptable: Able to relate to current imperfections with positivity while finding solutions and collaborating to improve the overall ecosystem in a collaborative and respectful way.
- Skilled at Context Switching: This person is able to be responsive to the changing needs of the space and is able to prioritize and prioritize on the fly.
