Job Description
The primary objective of this role is to build a welcoming community for audio storytellers through high-quality recording services and programming. The Community Manager oversees the local services and operations of a Podcast Garage while collaborating with PRX staff and partners to support new voices in podcasting. PRX measures success in this role through the level of participation in programming, usage of recording studios, rentals of equipment and space, feedback from users, and engagement with community partners.
This role requires a high level of customer service and relationship-building, clear communication, problem-solving, and passion for audio as well as PRX’s mission to make it accessible to all. As a member of a small team with a lot of autonomy, this role also demands a creative, entrepreneurial, and flexible mindset. Finally, this role includes evenings and weekend hours and requires the ability to lift and move furniture, equipment, etc. (accommodations available as needed.)
Definition of Success
- Active monthly calendar of 3-6 virtual and live programs with high participation
- Consistent monthly usage (over 60%) of the recording studio and rental equipment
- Ongoing partnerships with community organizations working in arts, culture, and media
- Positive customer feedback on programs and services, including high satisfaction with recording quality
- Space’s technical systems and resources function smoothly for users and PRX staff
Responsibilities
- Work with community partners, instructors, and speakers to design and create programming that aligns with PRX’s mission and resources
- Plan, execute, and promote monthly calendar of workshops and events, including scheduling, curriculum, scholarships, and outreach
- Manage daily operation of recording studio and field kit equipment, including customer support, training, and general maintenance
- Maintain, improve, and troubleshoot our operational and technical systems, including reservations and payments
- Track expenses and manage contracts, invoices, and payments
- Provide a welcoming and positive experience by guiding users to helpful resources, offering tours, and responding to inquiries promptly
- Maintain and improve the facilities, including daily tasks like washing dishes, emptying trash, and stocking supplies; event set-up and break-down; and responding promptly to any issues that arise
- Maintain COVID-19 protocols and report any issues to PRX staff
- Collect monthly user data i.e. attendance, evaluations, bookings, etc.
- Work with marketing team to maintain social media, website, and newsletter for Podcast Garage
- All other duties as assigned
Requirements
Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of program and event management, including coordination, content, and promotion
- Knowledge of and willingness to learn A/V systems, audio equipment, and editing software
- Comfortable with new technology and training others how to use it
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Skilled at improving internal systems, processes and delivery of services
- Knowledge of podcasts and/or public media, particularly the needs of independent producers
- Education & Experience
Required:
- 2+ years of experience working in arts, culture, or media
- Experience running live events or workshops
- Experience with administrative/operational tasks such as contracts, budgets, calendar management
- Experience in customer service and/or working in public spaces
- Experience with audio production and/or working in a recording studio
Preferred:
- Experience supporting people on creative endeavors or teaching audio, art, or media in a community setting
