Job Description

Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) is seeking a highly organized, proactive Program Assistant to support its Climate & Energy team in advancing critical environmental and public health advocacy across New England. This is a central administrative role that serves as the team's operational backbone, ensuring that legal, advocacy, and administrative work runs smoothly, efficiently, and on time.

The Program Assistant plays a key role in supporting attorneys and advocates by managing the day-to-day administrative, financial, and logistical functions that enable high impact environmental litigation, policy advocacy, and community engagement.

This position can be based in any of CLF’s six regional offices (Montpelier, VT; Concord, NH; Portland, ME; Providence, RI; New Haven, CT; or Boston, MA), with a strong preference for Boston. This is a benefit‑eligible, 30‑hour‑per‑week position, with flexibility for some remote work within New England. The 30 hours can be worked over 4 or 5 working days between Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.

What you’ll do

As an essential member of the Climate & Energy team, you will provide comprehensive administrative and programmatic support across a wide range of responsibilities, including:

·      Serve as the primary administrative support for the Climate & Energy program, ensuring the smooth operation of daily activities and long-term projects.

·      Manage calendars, schedule meetings and events, prepare agendas, take notes, and coordinate logistics for internal and external meetings.

·      Maintain electronic and paper filing systems, ensuring compliance with CLF’s document retention and organizational policies.

·      Coordinate and complete legal filings, including electronic and paper submissions.

·      Track and support program finances, including expense reports, credit card reconciliations, and coordination with CLF’s Finance Department.

·      Support onboarding of new staff, fellows, and interns, helping ensure a welcoming and efficient start.

·      Assist with research related to laws, policies, and best practices relevant to program priorities.

·      Prepare and maintain spreadsheets, reports, memos, presentations, and public comments.

·      Support fundraising and development efforts, including administrative coordination and materials preparation.

·      Collaborate with CLF’s Communications team to support program communications and advocacy efforts.

·      Coordinate travel arrangements and support technology and IT needs for team members.

·      Contribute to CLF’s strategic priorities and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and organizational excellence.

·      Take on additional responsibilities as needed. This role is designed to be flexible and responsive to evolving program needs.

What you’ll need

We are looking for a reliable, adaptable, and detail-oriented self-starter who enjoys being a resource and thrives in a dynamic, mission driven environment. To be successful in this role, you will bring:

·      Up to three years of professional work experience or equivalent.

·      Strong administrative capabilities, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Office 365).

·      The ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and solve problems effectively.

·      Excellent attention to detail and follow-through.

·      Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and locations.

·      Comfort supporting a wide range of tasks and shifting priorities as program needs evolve.

·      A commitment to learning new skills and taking on increasing responsibility over time.

·      Passion for CLF’s mission and commitment to environmental protection and public interest work.

·      Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent experience.

·      A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Our highest priority is finding the best candidate for the job. Research shows that people of color and women are less likely to apply for positions unless they meet every listed qualification. CLF values lived experience and diverse paths; we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every requirement or come from a less traditional background.

About CLF

Conservation Law Foundation (CLF) protects New England’s environment for the benefit of all people. A non-profit, member-supported organization, CLF uses the law, science, and the market to solve the region’s most challenging environmental problems, from climate change to ocean conservation to transportation. Every day, CLF advocates stand up for New Englanders—in statehouses, courthouses, boardrooms, regulatory hearings, and community gatherings—to forge innovative paths to environmental progress and economic prosperity for all in our region. To that end, CLF frequently works with communities of color, and those that are economically or otherwise disadvantaged, which often suffer disproportionately from the impacts of environmental degradation.

CLF is committed to diversity among our staff, volunteers, boards, and membership and creating a positive, inclusive workplace culture where all can thrive.

Salary and Benefits

CLF offers a competitive salary, an extensive benefits plan, and an open, inclusive, and accepting work environment where differences are highly respected. The starting salary range for this 30-hour per week position is $42,000 - $46,000 if based in Boston and $40,000 - $43,000 if based from a CLF office outside of Boston; actual salary will reflect experience and qualifications.

We recognize the value of work-life balance and also strive to create opportunities for growth for all employees through professional development.
