Job Description
A New York City Council Member’s district office is seeking a Constituent Services Liaison to work with residents of the 43rd District to collectively and individually address problems facing their communities. The Constituent Services Liaison will work with residents of the 43rd District to collectively and individually address problems facing their communities. Under the supervision of the Council Member and Chief of Staff, the liaison will field constituent requests from the District for assistance, seeking timely and satisfactory responses to those requests, and work closely with city-wide agencies, community leaders, and community-based organizations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Represent the Council Member at hearings, community meetings (such as community planning board meetings, school board meetings; block association meetings; civic organization meetings, etc.) and other functions within the community.
- Attend other governmental and non-governmental meetings as designated by the Council Member, Chief of Staff, and/or Community Affairs Director.
- Respond to constituent inquiries and work to remedy constituent complaints by investigating issues, conducting research, and contacting various public entities on the federal, state, and local levels, and private entities as needed. Advocate on behalf of constituents for services.
- Coordinate and implement community events.
- Coordinate and partner with local community services providers and organizations to bring services to constituents.
- Answer phones, take messages, and provide other administrative support as needed in the District Office.
- Remote work, as needed.
- Miscellaneous projects and tasks, as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of District 43rd, including its neighborhoods, history, and diverse communities.
- Experience in case management, organizing, constituent services, or other applicable fields, ideally in New York City.
- Excellent communication, public presentation, research and writing skills.
- Ability to work effectively with New York City agencies.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the general public and co-workers.
- Must be highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Written and verbal fluency in at least one non-English language highly preferred.
- Interest in local government and city issues and/or previous experience in government or political campaigns preferred.
