Americans For Financial Reform Education Fund Summer 2026 Internships
Formed in the wake of the 2008 crisis, Americans for Financial Reform is working to lay the foundation for a strong, stable, and ethical financial system – one that serves the economy and the nation as a whole, rather than a select few, and we are looking for bright interns to join the fight!

Communications Internship:
The communications intern, a position that can last up to a year, will report to the Communications Director and is an opportunity to practice and learn a wide variety of communications skills involved in issue advocacy, often in a very fast-paced environment, and pave the way for further work in this space.
Previous AFR communications interns have spent between 3 and 12 months at the organization and gone on to stimulating jobs in other progressive advocacy organizations, in the federal government, the private sector, and at AFR itself. The Communications Coordinator prioritizes helping interns find full-time employment if they prove eager to learn and capable in their work at AFR.
Responsibilities for the Communications Internship will include:
Collecting and circulating articles helpful to AFR advocacy
Aiding in the creation of AFR’s weekly newsletter, Financial Justice
Writing and editing news releases
Learning and using software for sending news releases and creating lists of journalists
Selected research projects in partnership with campaign and policy staff
Support AFR coalition members if possible/necessary
Assist in organization/execution of AFR events, often online
Participation in intern learning opportunities at AFR and elsewhere
Support Communications Manager as needed
Qualifications for the Communications Internship:
Ideal candidates must have a strong commitment to racial justice, economic justice, and social justice. They should have excellent written and oral communication skills, high proficiency with general office software (G-Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and knowledge and experience with social networks. Candidates must also be detail-oriented, with solid judgment and good relationship-building skills. Location in the Washington, DC area is preferred but definitely not essential.

Digital Content Internship
The Digital Content Intern, a position that can last up to a year, will report to the Digital Strategist and is an opportunity to practice and learn a wide variety of content strategy skills involved in issue advocacy, often in a very fast-paced environment, and pave the way for further work in this space.
Previous AFR digital interns have spent between 3 and 12 months at the organization and gone on to stimulating jobs in other progressive advocacy organizations, in the federal government, and the private sector.
Responsibilities for the Digital Content Internship will include:
Collaborate with the Digital Strategist on developing an internship workplan aimed at developing specific skills in line with career goals
Work with the Digital Strategist to develop video, audio and graphic content on economic justice issues related to banks, housing, climate change, economic stability, crypto, private equity, corporate accountability, and consumer protections
Aid in the creation of AFR/AFREF draft blog posts, newsletter articles, and emails
Support the digital roll out of reports and other research
Simplify complex ideas through effective writing skills, ensuring AFR/AFREF’s editorial standards
Pull rapid response video clips from public hearings and meetings
Assist in planning and executing of AFR/AFREF webinars and other events
Work with the Digital Strategist to update/maintain our social media calendar and schedule posts tailored to Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bluesky, and LinkedIn.
Collaborate with issue area teams to draft social media and website content that maintains consistent tone and furthers established program goals
Build relationships with other economic and social justice organizations through monitoring and engaging with ally accounts online
Exercise good judgement in liking and resharing social media content that furthers AFR/AFREF’s advocacy and mission
Review weekly analytics reports on website and social activity and summarize important key takeaways
Provide general administrative support to the Digital Strategist and complete other tasks as needed
Core Competencies:
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Strong graphic design skills
Proficiency with Canva is required
Basic video editing is required
Familiarity with Buffer, CapCut, OBS Studio, Brevo, and Wordpress or similar software
Experience with podcast editing is a plus
Comfortable with YouTube, Substack, Bluesky, X, Facebook and Instagram
Other Requirements:
Strong commitment to racial justice, economic justice, and social justice
High-speed internet
Personal computer that can be used for work
Enthusiasm to problem solve, work independently, and meet deadlines in a remote environment
Attention to detail, solid judgment, and good relationship-building skills
Desire to learn new skills and an openness to complex financial concepts
Location in the Washington, DC area is preferred but definitely not essential
Compensation for all internships:
AFR Ed Fund offers interns compensation of $17.95/hour, together with stimulating, soul-satisfying work, and a crash course in public-interest advocacy, financial regulation, communications, and coalition building. Academic credit is available as well.
