Job Title: Constituent Services Liaison
Location: Office of New York City Council Member Lynn Schulman – District 29 (Queens)
Reports To: Deputy Chief of Staff / Chief of Staff
Employment Type: Full-time

Position Overview:

The Office of NYC Council Member Lynn Schulman seeks a dedicated, empathetic, and detail-oriented Constituent Services Representative to join a dynamic and community-focused team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in assisting residents of Council District 29 by addressing local concerns, connecting them with resources, advocating on behalf of constituents with city agencies and community partners, and help plan special events in the district.

This is a public-facing role ideal for someone passionate about helping others, driven to solve problems, and committed to public service and social justice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly and professionally to constituent inquiries via phone, email, mail, and in-person visits.
  • Assist constituents with navigating city services and agencies, including but not limited to housing, sanitation, public safety, education, transportation, and healthcare.
  • Conduct thorough casework follow-ups, maintain accurate records, and ensure timely resolution of constituent issues.
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant city agencies, nonprofit organizations, and service providers.
  • Represent the Council Member at community events, local meetings, and resource fairs.
  • Identify trends and systemic issues arising from constituent concerns and recommend legislative or budgetary action where appropriate.
  • Support the planning and execution of special events and projects, including Participatory Budgeting, town halls, forums, and other public events. Also, manage constituent specific events, such as Women’s History Month, Lunar New Year, and the like.
  • Collaborate with legislative and communications staff to ensure constituent concerns inform the Council Member’s priorities and policy work.
  • Perform other administrative and programmatic duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to public service and community engagement.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Fluency in English required; fluency in a second language (e.g., Spanish, Russian, Mandarin, Bengali, or Punjabi) strongly preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM or case management software.
  • Previous experience in customer service, social work, government, or nonprofit sectors preferred.
  • Knowledge of NYC government structure and services is a plus.
  • Residence in or strong familiarity with Council District 29 (Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Richmond Hill, Rego Park) is preferred.
  • Access to reliable transportation throughout the City.
