Counsel/Legislative Assistant

Senator Edward J. Markey (D-MA) seeks a Counsel or Legislative Assistant to lead his work on judiciary issues, including voting rights, immigration, civil & human rights, court reform, and gun violence prevention, as well as homeland security issues. This individual will perform in-depth legislative analysis and research; draft, introduce, and secure the passage of amendments and bills; prepare briefing materials; advise and brief the Senator; meet with constituents; and collaborate with national and local stakeholders. Qualified candidates should be entrepreneurial, possess excellent negotiation and writing skills, and work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Candidates with a Juris Doctor strongly preferred. Candidates from BIPOC, LGBTQ+, working class, military, and/or other underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged to apply, as well as candidates with ties to Massachusetts.
