ABOUT JCUA
The mission of the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs (JCUA) is to combat poverty, racism and antisemitism in partnership with Chicago's diverse communities. Inspired by core Jewish values, we organize a Jewish constituency to partner with communities directly impacted by poverty and racism toward realizing a shared vision of justice. In the context of our ongoing work to build bridges and deepen connections with communities across the city. JCUA develops and mobilizes a base of individuals from the Jewish community who become engaged in a variety of ways as leaders, donors and participants in campaigns, activities, and programs.
ABOUT THE POSITION
JCUA’s Database Manager is a member of the Development and Engagement team and currently reports directly to the Director of Development and Advancement. The Database Manager’s work provides a critical function to ensure our organization’s success with the primary duties of maintaining donor and engagement database, processing donations, acknowledging gifts, and providing administrative support as deemed necessary. This is a full-time, exempt position that falls within a bargaining unit represented for collective bargaining purposes by a labor organization (SEIU Local 73).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy - 30%
- Manage JCUA’s database and ensure its accuracy and integrity
- Oversee and execute data entry procedures and maintain consistent standards for donor and leader data
- Regularly review and revise gift acceptance, gift entry, and acknowledgement policies and procedures
- Lead in developing a strong organizational culture where we all follow the procedures for how we code, input , and use data on a daily basis
- Create and implement data automation strategies for information and organizational efficiency
- Lead bi-annual clean up efforts to resolve errors and inconsistencies
- Support staff in learning new skills with training
- Work to integrate other digital tools like auction software, wealth screening, and texting software
Development - 50%
- Carry out all gift entry responsibilities
- Lead the development team in upload, coding, running, and mailing acknowledgement letters, including automated letters, to donors on a weekly basis
- Support Development staff and Executive Director with moves management tools
- Load all grants into the grants management tool, including deadlines and next steps
- Create and run lists/reports for development staff including for mailings, event attendance, and stewardship
- Develop and segment prospect and mailing lists, create and update dashboards, and oversee direct mail appeals for campaigns and events
- Create events and donation forms
- Make sure all gifts are up to date and accurate, including honor/memory and soft credit gifts
- Support accounting team with monthly financial reporting and annual audits.
Organizing/Communications - 20%
- Support the organizing team in event and form creation
- Pull reports and lists for both JCUA and JCUA Votes
- Work with organizing team and communications staff on strategy implementation for petitions, texts, and other base building tools and activities.
- Support in the coding of welcome series, emails, and other communications tasks as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or comparable experience.
- 2 or more years of database management experience with EveryAction (EA) or demonstrated ability to manage a new database if no hands-on experience with EA
- Strong attention to detail
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and lead multiple projects and to complete them in a timely manner
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting and work well with staff of different levels
- Strong problem-solving abilities and demonstrated ability to take initiative
- Passion for social justice and desire to advance JCUA’s values and mission.
LOCATION
JCUA is located on the north side of Chicago. Staff currently work two days in the office with additional days remote optional, which is subject to change.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- Salary range is $56k-$63K per year

- JCUA closes at 1 pm on alternate Fridays throughout the year in an effort to promote a healthier work-life balance
- Flex time within the week to accommodate occasional weeknight and weekend work and comp time in instances where staff member is working more than 40 hours in a single week
