Reports to: Chief Development Officer (CDO)


Location: Hybrid – regular travel to Washington, DC and New York required


Salary Range: $135,000 to $165,000


Position Summary:


The Deputy Director of Development serves as a senior operational and fundraising partner to the Chief Development Officer and plays a critical role in executing and coordinating DMFI’s national fundraising efforts. This position combines high-level administrative coordination, donor engagement support, event execution, and frontline fundraising responsibilities, with a particular emphasis on in-person donor cultivation and fundraising.


The ideal candidate is highly organized, politically savvy, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in fast-paced environments. This individual must be able to manage logistics and administrative priorities while also building strong relationships with donors, prospects, hosts, and stakeholders.


This role requires regular travel and attendance at evening and weekend fundraising events as needed.


Primary Responsibilities:


 


Fundraising & Donor Engagement


·        Lead operational execution and coordination of DMFI’s national fundraising strategy in partnership with the Chief Development Officer.


·        Lead donor stewardship, relationship management, follow-up coordination, and in-person fundraising engagement efforts with donors, prospects, and fundraising hosts.


·        Prepare donor briefing materials, call sheets, meeting preparation documents, and follow-up correspondence for development activities and donor engagement efforts.


·        Oversee prospect research and donor pipeline tracking to support fundraising growth and donor cultivation efforts.


 


Administrative & Operational Support


·        Manage scheduling, calendars, travel coordination, and logistical planning for development activities and donor meetings.


·        Oversee and coordinate all day-to-day operational functions of the development department to ensure timely execution of fundraising priorities, deliverables, and donor engagement.


·        Lead internal coordination and follow-up across development, leadership, finance, and communications teams for fundraising activities and development operations.


·        Maintain and oversee tracking of fundraising activity, donor engagement, development priorities, and operational workflows within EveryAction and related systems.


·        Ensure donor records, meeting notes, and fundraising data are maintained accurately and in a timely manner.


 


Event Management & Logistics


·        Lead logistics, planning, and execution for donor events and briefings.


·        Manage invitations, RSVP tracking, event preparation, and attendee coordination.


·        Lead day-of operational management for fundraising events, including evenings and weekends as needed.


·        Oversee post-event stewardship tracking and donor follow-up communications.


 


Development Operations


·        Oversee donor acknowledgments, fundraising reports, briefing materials, and development communications.


·        Lead coordination with the finance department regarding fundraising tracking, reconciliation, and reporting activities.


·        Identify and implement improvements to development systems, operational processes, and donor engagement workflows.


 


What we’re looking for:


·        Minimum 4–6 years of fundraising, political, campaign, nonprofit, or related experience.


·        Strong organizational and project management skills with exceptional attention to detail.


·        Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion when handling sensitive donor and organizational information.


·        Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.


·        Experience supporting donor engagement and fundraising operations preferred.


·        Familiarity with EveryAction or similar donor database systems strongly preferred.


·        Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced political environment.


·        Willingness to travel regularly and attend evening/weekend events as needed.
