Position Summary: The DCCC is hiring a Deputy Director of Voter Protection for the 2024 election cycle. This person will work closely with the Director of Litigation & Voter Protection to help craft the vision for voter protection at the DCCC this cycle. The Deputy Director will hire and manage 5 Regional Voter Protection Directors (RVPDs) that will cover competitive races across the country. Ideal candidates for this position will have experience managing a team and creating a voter protection plan. In addition, familiarity with post-voting work as well as an ability to understand the legal landscape as it relates to elections is a plus.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Hire and manage 5 Regional Voter Protection Directors (RVPDs)
  • Draft voter protection plan templates for RVPDs to use to outline district specific programs
  • Create, implement and oversee a national poll observer program
  • Build and facilitate relationships between state parties, state voter protection directors and RVPDs to ensure streamlined communication regarding voter protection work
  • Track legislation, rules, guidance that could have an impact on the election or voting experience
  • Contribute to the Quarterly Newsletter on Voting Rights
  • Work with the Organizing team, Data team, and other Deputy Directors to ensure interdepartmental communication and collaboration
  • Become familiar with all ongoing redistricting litigation and be a resource to other departments
  • Establish structures for registering voters, educating voters on new laws, and expanding opportunities to vote before Election Day
  • Create systems that facilitate early and frequent contact with local election administrators
  • Develop an integrated legal/political/organizing/comms rapid response system to monitor and resolve voter suppression efforts
  • Work closely with the Deputy for Post Election to ensure congressional campaigns are ready in the event of a close election
  • Help gather facts and information for voting rights related litigation
Requirements:
  • 2+ cycles or 3+ years experience working on political campaigns in a voter protection capacity or comparative experience working with community, advocacy or electoral organizations with success in developing and winning campaigns
  • Law school graduate is preferred but not required
  • Experience coaching and managing staff
  • Experience helping build or implement voter education and poll observer programs
  • Ability to simplify complexity, think strategically, and anticipate problems
  • Strong writing and communications skills are required.
  • Familiarity with election law is preferred but subject matter expertise is not required.
  • Candidates must be able to demonstrate creative thinking, sound judgment, a strong work ethic and a competitive spirit.
