The Maine Democratic Party (MDP) is seeking a strategic leader to serve as our Deputy Voter Access Director for the 2026 election cycle. This deputy-level role supports all aspects of MDP’s voter access program – including direct voter assistance, poll watching, vote-by-mail support, and post-election work in Maine.


You'll work with the Voter Access Director, across departments, and collaborate with local officials and national partners to protect the right to vote and ensure a fair, inclusive democratic process. Responsibilities

● Support the Voter Access Team’s programmatic efforts, planning, and overseeing the team’s work for the 2026 election cycle, managing staff member(s) and volunteers.

● Aid the development and distribution of educational materials for voters

● Coordinate with other departments to facilitate the Voter Access Team’s work and support the work of other departments.

● Assist in the tracking of legislative and litigation developments related to voting and election law and collaborate with the Party’s legal counsel on how to address those developments.

● Help identify election administration and voting problems through collaboration with County Chairs, external stakeholders, hotline reports, news reports, and other sources to develop a coordinated response within the Party.

● Assist in recruiting, training, and organizing volunteers to support the Voter Access Team’s goals.

● Support the administering of the Democratic Primary election throughout the state, managing the candidate filing process for MDP, tracking primary finances, and training & supporting County Chairs in administering county primary elections.

● Help coordinate with state and select county-level officials to advance proactive improvements to voting, respond to problems, and resolve issues for individual voters, with a particular focus on issues impacting people of color and voters with disabilities.

● Maintain a strong knowledge base of voting laws, policies, and practices within Maine and national trends/best practices.

● Assist with any other tasks outlined by the Voter Access Director and Coordinated Campaign leadership Requirements

● Minimum of two years of professional experience in campaigns and/or policy & advocacy.

● Minimum of one cycle of voter protection experience on staff with a state party, coordinated campaign, or a non-profit organization.

● Demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills and pragmatic approach.

● Strong knowledge of the Election Code or policy guidance.

● Demonstrated strong presentation and training skills. Preferred Qualifications

● J.D. degree from an accredited law school; the ideal candidate has appropriate bar membership permitting practice in Maine.

● Organizing experience – The candidate has a track record of success in recruiting, training and managing volunteers, and escalating volunteers into leadership roles.

● Experience using VAN and LBJ. Salary and benefits Salary is dependent on experience and is in the $6,500 month range. Generous benefits offered.


This position is part of the Maine Democratic Party’s Coordinated Campaign bargaining unit, represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #1837. This position is based in Maine through November 2026 with 5 days a week required in MDP’s Portland HQ office except when needed in MDP’s Augusta and Bangor offices or such other offices as may be opened. Additional in-person meetings and event-based work across the state required as needed. This position will be routinely expected to work nights and weekends and over 60 hours per week.
