THE ORGANIZATION

Yamba Malawi is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending childhood poverty. Established in 2006, we aim to disrupt the cycle of poverty by equipping parents and caregivers with a unique blend of economic, educational, health, and social tools, which facilitates the creation of household-run businesses. Our distinctive approach is the world's only child-focused ultra-poverty graduation program. Through our initiatives, we offer holistic support in parenting and early childhood development, livelihoods and entrepreneurship, as well as financial literacy and inclusion. Embracing a community-centered method, our mission transcends merely combating poverty for children. We are setting the foundation for a resilient, thriving future in Malawi and beyond.

By the close of 2023, our partnerships will span over 3,500 ultra-poor households across five out of Malawi’s 28 national districts. As a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Yamba Malawi operates with dedicated staff and has established offices in Lilongwe, Malawi, and New York City.

THE POSITION

As an integral member of the Development team at Yamba Malawi, your role will be pivotal in actualizing our mission. Embark on a transformative journey with us as we implement an ambitious three-year fundraising strategy. In this dynamic environment, you'll immerse yourself in the workings of a proactive nonprofit dedicated to elevating the lives of Malawi's children. 

Your multifaceted role will span across various projects, offering you a rich experience in:

  • Event organization and management.
  • Database management ensuring streamlined operations.
  • Enhancing donor relations and stewardship.

Reporting directly to the Development and Communications Manager, you'll also have the unique opportunity for frequent collaboration with our Managing Director, Development Manager, and Director of Finance & Operations. This is an avenue for you to make a tangible difference while honing skills essential for a robust career in nonprofit management.

RESPONSIBILITIES  

Development Duties

  • Monitor and record all types of gifts, ensuring prompt dispatch of acknowledgement letters and receipts.
  • Produce periodic fundraising reports and dashboards using our donor database.
  • Assist in the strategy and execution of various campaigns, encompassing Annual Appeal, crowdfunding, general annual campaigns, and Pledge Circle campaigns.
  • Aid in the planning and orchestration of special events; this includes overseeing silent auction platforms, volunteer management, fundraising initiatives, and event production.
  • Lend support to initiatives like speaking engagements, corporate collaborations, and special projects.
  • Assist in Board of Directors activities, ensuring smooth organization of meetings, adherence to compliance, accurate documentation, and maintaining board member relations.
  • Participate actively in the cultivation and retention of donors.
  • Contribute to the evolution of giving circles through stewardship, engagement, fundraising initiatives, and their expansion.
  • Provide insights and support in grant prospect research when required.
  • Offer assistance with diverse development operations and overarching organizational duties.

Operational Tasks

  • Oversee financial data entry and receipt tracking in coordination with the Director of Finance.
  • Handle registrations, compliance, and other administrative duties.
  • Extend both remote and on-site administrative/IT support to the US & Malawi branches.
  • Ensure that organizational systems and processes, like Google Drive, Salesforce (spanning Development and Programs Dashboards), and Classy, remain organized and efficient.
  • Supervise general office communication, guiding queries to appropriate personnel.
  • Provide support in reconciling fundraising and financial reports, tracking expense receipts, and implementing additional processes.
  • Partner with HR to organize team-building events and professional growth sessions, including staff retreats, conferences, and Lunch and Learns.
  • Undertake additional administrative responsibilities as the need arises.

LOCATION

This role follows a hybrid model, balancing between remote work and regular in-person office days within the New York City vicinity. Participation is also required for special events and administrative duties, contingent upon safe conditions for such activities. Applicants should have authorization to work in the United States.

SALARY & BENEFITS

  • Salary range: $40,000-$45,000, commensurate with experience.
