Brilliance and Excellence, NFP (BE) empowers Chicago communities by driving systemic change and fostering collaborative partnerships that produce population level impact. Through initiatives aligned with the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance (MBKA), BE supports Boys and Young Men of Color (BYMOC) in achieving critical milestones, from early education readiness to successful workforce entry and community safety. That said, the mission of Brilliance and Excellence, NFP is to showcase the brilliance and excellence of Boys and Young Men of Color and promote safe and peaceful communities. 

 

Position Overview

This is a part-time, on-site role for a Media and Marketing Intern located in Chicago, IL. Brilliance and Excellence, NFP is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and mission-driven Development Intern to support the Chief Development Officer in fundraising, donor engagement, partnership cultivation, and strategic development initiatives. This internship provides valuable hands-on experience in nonprofit development and philanthropy.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with donor research and prospect identification.
  • Support the preparation of grant materials, fundraising reports, presentations, and donor communications.
  • Help maintain donor databases and track fundraising activities.
  • Assist with planning and coordination of fundraising events, meetings, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Support stewardship efforts including thank-you letters, acknowledgements, and donor follow-up communications.
  • Conduct research on foundations, corporations, and funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Assist with administrative and logistical support for the Chief Development Officer.
  • Participate in development strategy discussions and special projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications & Skills

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a college or university program in Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, Public Administration, Political Science, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and virtual meeting platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Passion for nonprofit work, equity, philanthropy, and youth empowerment.
