Job Description
Position Summary:
The Development Intern provides administrative support to the Development Department. This position is responsible for assisting in clerical duties, data entry, and relevant interdepartmental projects and events.
Purpose of the Internship:
This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organized and motivated individual to develop skills in nonprofit development work and ultimately learn about arts education, fundraising, and nonprofit organization processes in a creative, collaborative environment.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the internship, the intern will:
- Develop an understanding of nonprofit fundraising principles and practices
- Gain experience with donor relations, cultivation, and stewardship
- Strengthen attention to detail and organizational skills
- Build skills like time management, communication, and accountability
- Build proficiency in Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge CRM database system, WealthEngine prospect research, and office systems
Key Responsibilities:
- Data-entry and research in our database systems: Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge, Wealth Engine, and RecTrac
- Facilitate the processing and mailing of donor acknowledgments and other donor correspondence
- Support administrative needs for the Development Department, such as:
- Preparing agendas
- Making copies
- Taking meeting notes
- Updated rosters/contact information
- Proofreading & editing documents
- Provide administrative support for events, such as:
- Creating sign-in sheets
- Nametags
- Make copies/organize handouts
- Organize Development storage spaces & materials
- Other duties as assigned
Education and Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in college/university
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel, Internet, etc.
- Possess an interest in a nonprofit career - particularly development and fundraising
- A commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Ability to type and use computers and standard office equipment (ex: copier/printer)
- Strong aptitude for database systems
- Clear attention to detail
- Ability to interact professionally with senior management team, Board of Directors, staff and community at-large
- Exhibit a positive attitude
- Forward thinking in relation to technology-based solutions
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding donor records and information
Schedule
- Approximately 20 hours per week
- Flexible scheduling within standard business hours
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach and manipulate objects.
- Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc., and may infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Manual dexterity and coordination are required while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment.
- This position may request work on nights and weekends, dependent upon COCA’s Event calendar, and intern availability.
Compensation:
- This is an unpaid position.
- There is opportunity for school credit if allowed by the college/university of applicant.
