CT Humanities (CTH), a state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities located in Middletown, Connecticut, seeks a full-time (37.5 hours) Digital Humanities Education Manager. 

The Digital Humanities Education Manager will be a core member of CTH’s Digital Humanities (DH) team. The DH team promotes the humanities through connecting and curating trusted educational content and resources, developing and facilitating innovative programs and projects, and partnering with others to support and advance shared digital initiatives. CTH maintains two digital humanities websites: a statewide digital encyclopedia, ConnecticutHistory.org and a lesson plan platform, Teach It (teachitct.org)  

Description: Reporting to the Director of Digital Humanities, the Digital Humanities Education Manager will create connections between CTH-produced content, educators, and museum professionals to enhance access to Connecticut’s cultural heritage in the classroom. Current projects include managing content for Teach It including writing lesson plans and cultivating content creators to contribute to the platform; exploring ways to connect CTH’s content to the State’s recently adopted social studies standards; fostering relationships between CTH and partner organizations, such as the CT Council for the Social Studies and the CT State Department of Education; participate in request for proposals review for reimagining CTH’s existing digital platforms; and creating a survey of educational programs offered by CT colleges and universities. This position will also work across CTH departments to expand access to CTH-created digital resources.

Salary: $60,000/year, plus full CTH benefits package (health, dental, vision, and life insurance, retirement plan, and vacation and paid time off) 

Duties and responsibilities include:  

  • Responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day content management of Teach It, including the creation of and management of CTH produced content. 
  • Coordinate with DH staff to connect content from ConnecticutHistory.org to educators and students 
  • Provide insight on functionalities for CTH digital platforms with multilevel educational uses in mind 
  • Liaise with CTH’s educational partners, museum professionals and school educators/administrators for project work 
  • Manage and coordinate workflow for multiple projects 
  • Work collaboratively with organizations to identify common goals and find solutions to challenges for mutually beneficial results  
  • Communicate project results to staff/board 
  • Occasional in-state travel may be required 
  • Other related duties as assigned 

Essential skills include: 

  • Recent K-12 classroom teaching experience in the content area of history and social studies 
  • Familiarity with the new CT State Social Studies Standards 
  • Strong computer skills (Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and PowerPoint) 
  • Experience with Zoom or other virtual meeting platforms required 
  • Experience integrating digital resources into primary and/or secondary curriculum 
  • Experience working with diverse communities, peoples, and organizations 
  • A desire and ability to work independently, move quickly, but deliberately; share and receive critical feedback. 

This position requires strong communication between staff, board members, educators, grantees, partners and the public. Understanding these relationships is critical and excellent communication skills are required.

CTH’s workday is 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday with room for flexibility in employee schedules. The Digital Humanities Education Manager will work both remotely and onsite, at least 2 days a week, at CTH’s Middletown office.
