POSITION SUMMARY

For more than 70 years, Fountain House has successfully addressed the devastating impact of mental illness on individuals, families, and communities through its pioneering clubhouse model, which provides a structured, therapeutic social community and the tools to break the bonds of social isolation faced by people living with mental illness, while also addressing their basic health and social needs such as access to healthcare, housing, employment, education, nutrition, and safety. Fountain House accomplishes this by working in partnership with its members – people living with mental illness – and putting them at the center of their own recovery.

Fountain House is the most widely replicated evidence-based model for people living with mental illness in the world with over 300 model programs serving over 100,000 people throughout the US and in more than 30 countries.

Reporting to the Interim Chief Development Officer, the Director of Development Operations leads all aspects of projecting, tracking, analyzing, and reporting on philanthropic revenue and donor metrics, including management of donor systems and data reporting, moves management, donor stewardship, financial reconciliation, and metric-based fundraising strategies. They lead and manage a team of development specialists in prospect research and gift processing, and work closely with members of the fundraising, finance, and IT teams to deliver exceptional work in service of Fountain House’s ambitious fundraising goals and key priorities. 

The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive knowledge of fundraising infrastructure and analytics, preferably with experience in diversified funding streams, including public funding. They will be data-driven and a strategic thinker, who can visualize data, see trends, and design tools for communicating metrics both technically and in a way that is understood by those who may not be system thinkers. Experience as a database administrator is required, particularly Salesforce. They will have exceptional written and oral communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to a collaborative work style.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design and implementation of the Development planning and analysis strategy in support of Fountain House’s organization-wide goals.
  • Manage effective planning and analysis that supports a streamlined and scalable fundraising effort.
  • Oversee the administration and change management for Salesforce, Fountain House’s CRM database, leading the design and implementation of system improvements in collaboration with Development, IT, Finance, and external consultants. 
  • Manage Salesforce third-party integrations, including Classy, iWave, Campaign Monitor, and EveryAction. 
  • Supervise the Development Operations team, delegating new projections, and aligning team priorities to meet the organizational and departmental needs.
  • Work with the Chief Development Officer and cross-functional teams to establish and maintain best practices and protocols for gift processing and revenue reporting.
  • Enhance systems for donor and prospect data management; establish and implement a comprehensive system throughout the Fountain House fundraising network, directing best practices, trainings, and support for best practices on all Development systems.
  • Collaborate with the Executive team, Development, and Finance to ensure accurate revenue, moves management, budgeting, and wealth screening reports.
  • Guide prospect management strategy, including portfolio maintenance, moves management, and donor segmentation.
  • Oversee and report on all revenue budgets, including donor revenue projections on a monthly and annual basis to development and finance leadership.
  • Collaborate with fundraisers to support cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects and donors to advance fundraising goals.
  • Oversee organization-wide development data management and prospect management support.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree required, as well as a minimum of four years working directly with donor data and/or information services as part of a complex fundraising operation Must have comprehensive knowledge of current Development needs and trends.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team that implements best practices and business rules, creates fundraising reports for segmented audiences, maintains data hygiene, and manages a donor database (Salesforce preferred).
  • Must have the ability to creatively problem solve, think strategically, and anticipate the impacts of decision-making across departments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; must be able to effectively analyze, interpret, evaluate, and communicate simple and complex technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Experience collaborating at a high level with other departments, including Finance, IT, the Executive team, and the Development Committee.
  • Analytical, organized, proactive, and detail-oriented with strong project management skills, and the ability to balance multiple priorities and prioritize independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be proficient with MS Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of fundraising best practices and prospect management as well as campaign operations.
  • Experience managing data systems tracking complex funding sources, including high net worth individuals, corporations, foundations, special events, and direct mail.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a coordinated and collaborative team.

Salary: $100 - 110k
