The Opportunity:

The Senior Manager, Regulatory Affairs is an integral member of MEMA’s Government Affairs team and supports the association’s advocacy efforts by leading engagement on federal, state, and international regulatory issues affecting the motor vehicle supplier industry. In collaboration with the Vice President, Regulatory Affairs, the Senior Manager advances MEMA’s policy priorities, strengthens relationships with regulators and industry stakeholders, and helps ensure members are informed, engaged, and well positioned to navigate a fast-paced and evolving regulatory environment.

This role will engage on a range of regulatory issues affecting the vehicle supplier industry, including emissions, chemicals management, cybersecurity, and emerging vehicle technologies.

What You’ll Do:

• Represent MEMA before federal and state regulatory agencies and international standards bodies, and coordinate meetings with member company representatives, policy makers and industry representatives. 
• Manage and coordinate targeted working groups through the MEMA Government Affairs Committee (GAC) and councils to draft comments, advocacy communications or responses on specific regulatory issues and policies.
• Develop policy statements and position papers on specific regulatory subjects affecting the vehicle supplier industry.
• Facilitate the development and submission of regulatory comments. For technical issues, this includes data collection, coordination with member companies’ engineering and technical teams and meetings with relevant department or agency staff.
• Track and communicate regulatory developments, industry trends, and policy changes by regularly monitoring the OMB and OIRA regulatory dashboard, the Federal Register, and other key agency websites for news, reports, or event information. 
• Represent MEMA before other industry groups, associations, and coalitions, including participating in and speaking at conferences and industry panels that advance MEMA policy objectives.

What You’ll Bring:

• 5 years of experience engaging in the regulatory process at the federal level.
• Experience working in regulatory, legal, or legislative analysis with a strong understanding of U.S. regulatory processes. Familiarity working at or with relevant federal agencies such as Environmental Protection Agency or the U.S. Department of Transportation is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree in public policy, political science, or a related field.
• Demonstrated public speaking skills, including the ability to present regulatory issues to diverse audiences such as senior industry leaders, government officials, and policy stakeholders.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate the technical impact of complex regulatory initiatives on the motor vehicle supplier industry and adapt messaging for different audiences.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience negotiating with government and non-government entities to reach consensus on regulatory priorities.

Additional Experience of Interest:

• International experience or interest.
• Knowledge of the motor vehicle industry.
• Familiarity with issues impacting manufacturing companies and interests.

This is a hybrid role based in Washington, DC or surrounding areas with regular in person collaboration at MEMA’s DC office. Approximately 15-20% travel is required.

The pay range for this role is $100,000 - $117,000. MEMA offers a competitive benefits package including health coverage, retirement plan with employer contribution, generous paid time off, and company paid professional development.
