The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) is seeking a strategic, experienced and highly skilled communications professional to serve as Director of Communications and Media Relations. This position plays a central role in advancing the American steel industry’s advocacy, policy and reputation priorities through compelling storytelling, media engagement and strategic communications. About the Role
The Director of Communications and Media Relations will lead AISI’s media relations activities while serving as a senior writer and media strategist for the organization. The position is responsible for developing messaging and editorial content for internal and external audiences, including press releases and statements, op-eds, speeches, talking points, executive messaging and various member communications to align with the organization’s overall communications strategy. The position will work closely with AISI leadership, policy and communications staff and member companies to coordinate and execute an enhanced communications campaign to strengthen awareness and support for the American steel industry and its priorities.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead and execute media relations strategies and outreach efforts
· Respond to media inquiries and build relationships with national, trade and policy reporters
· Draft and edit strategic communications materials for executive and member audiences
· Implement rapid-response communications
· Coordinate strategic communications campaigns and editorial planning
· Lead press events, media interviews, conferences and public affairs initiatives
· Help ensure consistency and quality across AISI communications materials
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree and minimum 7 years of experience in communications, journalism, public relations, public policy or related field, with trade association and/or administration or Capitol Hill experience a plus
· Exceptional writing, editing and verbal communication skills
· Strong media relations experience and ability to work effectively with stakeholders
· Experience supporting executive communications and strategic messaging initiatives
· Strong organizational and project management skills
Salary range $90,000-$120,000, commensurate with experience.
