Position Overview
Grassroot Projects is seeking a Director of Development & Programs to lead the growth and sustainability of our Seattle site. This role is responsible for advancing the organization's fundraising strategy, cultivating meaningful relationships with donors and community partners, and providing leadership to ensure high-quality programs that serve immigrant and refugee children, youth, and families. As the senior leader for the Seattle site, the Director serves as a strategic and hands-on leader who partners closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and community partners to strengthen the organization's visibility, financial sustainability, and community impact. The Director supervises a small team, supports program quality and growth, and represents Grassroot Projects throughout the community.
This is a player-coach leadership role, ideal for someone who enjoys developing strategy, operationalizing it, and working alongside others to achieve meaningful results.
Success in this role requires strong relationship-building skills, an entrepreneurial mindset, and the ability to
balance fundraising, community engagement, staff leadership, and organizational operations in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Development & Fundraising (60%)
● Develop and implement an annual fundraising strategy in partnership with leadership
and the Board of Directors
● Cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate
partners
● Identify and pursue grant opportunities, including proposal development and reporting
● Build and maintain a pipeline of prospective donors and sponsors
● Coordinate donor communications, stewardship efforts, and impact reporting
● Support fundraising campaigns, benefit events, and community engagement initiatives
● Organize fundraising events in collaboration with the team and other volunteers
Strategic Program Oversight (30%)
● Provide strategic oversight of Grassroot Projects’ youth and family programs
● Supervise the Program & Development Coordinators, who manages day-to-day program logistics
● Strengthen relationships with volunteers, partner schools, community organizations, and service providers
● Support the Executive Director with program evaluation and data collection to measure community impact
● Work with the ED and Board to identify opportunities to expand programs and partnerships
● Manage community communications through multiple channels including email, newsletters, and other platforms
Organizational Leadership (10%)
● Support nonprofit operations including program logistics, vendor coordination, and supplies
● Assist and eventually lead program budgeting and expense tracking
● Manage and build a team in Seattle that can scale operations with passion and heart
● Help prepare materials and reports for board meetings and stakeholders
● Represent the organization at community meetings, events, and outreach opportunities
● Contribute to organizational growth planning and strategic initiatives

Qualifications
Required
● 4+ years of progressive nonprofit fundraising and development experience, including donor cultivation, grant writing, and stewardship.
● Demonstrated success developing and maintaining relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporate partners, and community stakeholders.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills
● Experience working with or supporting immigrant and refugee communities or other underserved populations.
● Ability to manage multiple priorities and balance strategic leadership with hands-on execution in a small nonprofit environment
Preferred
● Experience working in youth programs or community engagement initiatives
● Experience building partnerships with schools and community organizations
● Experience with managing budgets of $500,000+
● Experience in Finance & Accounting
● Experience supervising staff or volunteers
● Familiarity with donor databases or CRM systems, specifically Bloomerang & MailChimp
● Bilingual skills relevant to communities served
Compensation & Benefits
● $83,000-$85,000 per year depending on experience
