Job Description
Director of Engagement, Boston Women’s Workforce Council (BWWC
Job Description
The Director of Engagement position represents an outstanding career opportunity for an experienced membership recruitment leader and relationship manager who wants to drive growth for a strong mission-driven organization with a truly critical vision – to eliminate gender and racial wage gaps in Greater Boston. The Boston Women’s Workforce Council (BWWC) facilitates a public-private partnership between the Boston Mayor’s office and Boston-area employers to make sure women, and particularly women of color, are promoted and paid fairly and equitably.
Employers sign the 100% Talent Compact pledging to:
- seek gender equality in their firms
- share best practices with other Compact Signers by attending quarterly briefing sessions
- contribute their payroll data confidentially every two years to the BWWC Wage Gap Measurement effort so that we can report a community snapshot of progress made in closing the gaps
· provide funding for the Council’s operations
The BWWC reflects a first-in-the-nation approach to tackling pay equity and, as such, we are contacted often by other municipalities, both nationally and internationally, looking to create similar models.
The Director of Engagement is a senior staff person charged with outreach to and retention of prospective and current Compact Signers. We have over 250 employer members ranging from established companies like State Street, Vertex Pharmaceuticals and Mass General Brigham to successful startups like ezCater and nonprofits such as The Boston Foundation. It is the Director of Engagement’s job to grow and maintain our Compact Signer base.
As a senior staff member of the BWWC, the Director of Engagement has responsibility for engaging with all audiences at our Signer’s organizations - HR, Diversity and Inclusion Officers and CEOs. This role will lead the planning and implementation of relevant events for Signers throughout the year, the biggest event being the Effective Practices Conference in early December. They will be instrumental in producing our annual year reports, including the biennial data report. In addition, they may be asked to lead special projects that the Executive Director deems important for Council growth.
The Director of Engagement will serve as the main point of contact for both our current and prospective Signers, bringing in the Executive Director and/or Council Chairs, and/or Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office Women’s Advancement when deemed necessary. They will work with the Executive Director to broaden understanding of the Councils work in the region, nationally and internationally.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Engagement will manage an Engagement Manager, a Marketing and Events Manager, intern(s) and/or Fellow(s) as are necessary to complete annual objectives.
The BWWC is housed at Boston University which acts as the organization’s fiscal agent, allowing all membership dues to be tax deductible. All BU benefits, therefore, are available to employees of the BWWC and include health and dental care, 401K contributions and tuition reimbursement among others.
