About the Role

The Governor’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Intern for Summer 2026. Located in both New York City and Albany, our office provides executive leadership and strategic advising to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across New York State government. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with interagency collaboration, assisting in the development and execution of equity efforts across the statewide enterprise. Interns will work closely with senior policy staff to ensure the State workforce remains a competitive, model employer where every employee can thrive.


Responsibilities

  • Policy & Research: Conduct substantive research and draft memos or reports regarding statewide equity and inclusion frameworks.
  • Legislative Tracking: Monitor and track relevant litigation, legislation, and government hearings.
  • Strategic Support: Assist in the development and execution of DEI initiatives and efforts across various state agencies and authorities.
  • Administrative Coordination: Support the efficient operation of the office through various administrative tasks and project management.
  • Interagency Collaboration: Facilitate collaboration among New York State entities to promote opportunity and ensure equitable state services for all New Yorkers.


Required Skills

  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to draft clear, concise professional documents.
  • Problem-Solving: Demonstrate strong initiative and creativity in solving challenges.
  • Organization: Highly organized with the ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Technical Proficiency: Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Collaborative Mindset: Ability to work well both independently and as part of a high-functioning team.


Qualifications

  • Education: Must be currently enrolled in a degree-granting program. Recent graduates are not eligible for this internship.
  • Interests: A keen interest in equity and inclusion frameworks and a passion for New York State policy and the work of the current administration.
  • Residency: Must either be a New York State resident OR be enrolled in a college or university located in New York State.
