Job Description
The World Justice Project (WJP) is seeking to hire two (2) full-time, paid interns for four to six months, starting in Summer of 2022, with the possibility of extension up to one year. This position will support WJP's research on the status of the rule of law and justice in the European Union at the regional level, and will contribute to data collection, analysis, and report production processes. This position will report directly to the European Union Rule of Law Research team's Senior Program Associate and will work closely with the rest of the team.
These positions will be based in the WJP Washington, DC office. WJP maintains a hybrid in-office/remote work schedule. Staff and interns are expected to be located within commuting distance of one of our established offices, and to work from the office at least three days per week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the primary data collection process for the Qualified Respondents' Questionnaire (QRQ) expert surveys or the General Population Poll (GPP) administered in the European Union. This includes survey design and maintenance, survey administration, data collection, management of expert contributors and polling partners, and management of online data collection platforms and CRM databases;
- Contribute to the data analysis, research, writing, editing, and production of reports;
- Support activities related to alternative data collection efforts, data presentation, and data visualization;
- Conduct qualitative research on rule of law and justice developments in the European Union;
- Assist with preparations for meetings and presentations, including producing drafts of Microsoft PowerPoint presentations and handouts, and preparing and assembling outreach materials for external distribution;
- Provide general programmatic and administrative support, including research, editing, and proofreading documents and presentations, and assisting with calendar management.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's or master's degree (completed or currently pursuing) in international affairs, social sciences, journalism, economics, policy studies, regional studies, law or related field;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, excellent problem-solving skills, and attention to detail;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel), with preference given to those with prior experience/proven ability managing large databases;
- English fluency is required; proficiency in an additional language is preferred.
- Preferably at least one year of professional experience, including internships;
- Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently, and ability to give and receive feedback;
- Ability to work independently as well as in group settings, the ability to manage her or his own workload, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work under deadline pressure;
- Understanding of rule of law and justice issues;

Physical Requirements
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is frequently required to use finger dexterity as well as sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard, and is frequently required to be capable of reading a computer screen. The employee also may need to remain seated for long periods of time, have the ability to perform repetitive motions, grasp objects, including a writing instrument, stand, communicate verbally and hear well enough to detect nuances and receive detailed information. The employee may be required to walk, push or pull objects, bend, squat, reach, or kneel. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for extensive reading and data analysis.
Working Conditions
The work conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing this job. WJP staff work indoors in a heated and air-conditioned office, with a mixture of natural, incandescent, and fluorescent light with low to moderate noise levels.
