The Hance Scarborough team is seeking an individual to fulfill the role of Executive and Policy Assistant in our Washington, D.C. office. The Assistant is a member of the federal lobbying team and provides administrative and some policy support to the federal team. The Assistant will have the opportunity to engage in a range of policy issues and work within a highly collaborative environment. This mid-level position is ideal for someone with strong organizational, initiative and communications skills that thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced office environment.

Duties:

·        Monitoring policy and news updates in order to promptly communicate updates with the proper HS staff and firm clients

·        Helping monitor the US Congress and federal agencies by tracking legislative activity, filing deadlines, federal register postings and drafting memos on hearings, briefings, and markups

·        Helping develop and implement systems to meet deadlines

·        Drafting, proofreading, and editing policy and strategy documents

·        Producing agendas and supporting materials in advance of weekly office meetings

·        Planning and drafting written materials to be published on our firm’s LinkedIn

·        Assist in preparation of federal lobby reports

·        Coordinating scheduling, planning, and logistics for client fly-ins

·        Helping to maintain the office environment including welcoming guests and ordering needed supplies

·        Maintaining financial records and invoices

·        Maintaining schedules for the firm’s managing partner and other senior office personnel as necessary

·        Answering the office phone and directing calls

Desired Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s degree

·        Prior experience in government or government relations strongly preferred

·        Demonstrated interest in policy or government

·        An understanding of Congress and the federal government, as well as the ability to monitor and track federal legislation, congressional committee activity, and regulations

·        Ability to work in-person from 9am-6pm, Monday through Friday

·        Excellent writing, copy editing, and proofreading skills

·        Excellent communication and follow‐up skills

·        An aptitude and willingness to perform administrative and organizational tasks

·        Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

·        Highly organized with strong attention to detail

·        Ability to perform routine tasks while acting to resolve time-sensitive issues
