Position Overview

The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the Autism Society of Indiana. This leader manages alloperations, personnel, fundraising, and public policy initiatives. The role requires driving strategic growth while aligning with the Autism Society of America affiliate network. The ideal candidate expands Medicaid waiver service lines, creates strong community connections, and spearheads statewide advocacy.


Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Governance
  • Board Collaboration: Partner with the Board to execute the rolling multi-year strategic plan.
  • Network Integration: Collaborate with national affiliates to deploy unified autism support models.
  • Compliance Oversight: Guarantee all programs fulfill local, state, and federal regulatory statutes.


Operational & Financial Management

  • Fiscal Accountability: Direct the annual budgeting process, revenue projections, and financial audits.
  • Medicaid Service Administration: Oversee Respite and Participant Assistance & Care (PAC) waiver services.
  • Performance Evaluation: Review organizational efficacy to optimize daily workflows and data entry metrics.


Advocacy & Public Relations

  • Coalition Engagement: Represent ASI within the legislative Indiana Disability Alliance.
  • Media Representation: Act as the primary spokesperson for press inquiries and awareness campaigns.
  • Legislative Lobbying: Advance state policies protecting home and community-based service (HCBS) funding.


Fundraising & Community Development

  • Donor Cultivation: Secure corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, and individual major gifts.
  • Event Strategy: Provide executive oversight for signature statewide fundraising and awareness events.


Team Development & Culture

  • Staff Supervision: Mentor executive staff, area managers, and direct care personnel.
  • Talent Management: Oversee proactive recruitment, training, and professional development programs.
  • Inclusive Culture: Foster a person-centered working environment focused on empathy and high performance.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Required Education & Experience
  • Degree Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Social Work, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Leadership Tenure: Minimum of 5–7 years in a senior executive role within a non-profit or healthcare entity.
  • Domain Knowledge: Extensive familiarity with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and developmental disability landscapes.
  • Systems Familiarity: Deep understanding of the Indiana Medicaid Waiver system and HCBS frameworks.

  • Public Relations: Exceptional interpersonal communication and public presentation capabilities.
  • Financial Acumen: Proven competency in managing operational budgets.
  • Relationship Building: Demonstrated ability to unite diverse stakeholders, lawmakers, and families.
