Summary The Federal Reserve Board (Board) provides students opportunities for career success. The Board’s Internship program is designed to provide valuable work experience for undergraduate and graduate students considering careers including, but not limited to, economics, finance and accounting, information systems, and data analysis. The Board believes that by combining academic endeavors with project-related work experience, qualified and capable college students can gain the practical knowledge need in a competitive global job market. Internships are paid positions with salaries commensurate with credit hours; internships may be in-person, remote or hybrid, depending on the needs of the team. Employment in the Board’s internship program is granted to U.S. citizens. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited university and returning to continue studies after the internship. Interns receive a syllabus or research project plan outlining their projects and goals for the internship. Interns are assigned a supervisor or mentor to guide them through their internship, and regular check-in meetings with their manager to manage performance expectations and assist with learning goals. Interns have access to a wide range of training programs and events for professional development purposes.

Position Requirements The Public Affairs Office at the Federal Reserve Board is responsible for media/reporter engagement and external communication for the agency. The Public Affairs projects intern will assist the office with monitoring broadcast news and other media, and compiling video clips, transcripts, and news summaries about and relevant to the Federal Reserve. The intern will also work on administrative tasks and projects to support the operation of the office. The intern will work with all members of the office.

  • U.S. Citizenship is required for all Board internships and applicants must be current students, graduating from their program Fall 2026 or later.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Spring 2026
  • Anticipated Hours: Candidates must be available to work from 6:30 a.m. ET to 10 a.m. ET, Monday through Friday.
    • During the school semesters, minimum of 6:30 a.m. ET to 10 a.m. ET, Monday through Friday with additional hours possible based on candidate interest and availability
    • During the summer, hours will increase to 40 hours per week
    • This will be a 6-month term position.
  • Work Environment:
    • During the school semesters, this internship can be completed remotely
    • During the summer, this is a fully in-person internship and will require onsite presence in Washington, DC

Qualifications Suggested Major/Minor: Communications, economics, business, journalism, political science

Required Skills and Knowledge: Microsoft Office, experience communicating professionally in writing

Preferred Skills: Familiarity with monitoring news media, particularly broadcast news
