American Airlines is hiring a strategic communications manager based in either Philadelphia, Washington, DC, or Charlotte who can help us effectively tell our story and deliver timely information and insights that inform American’s response to sensitive issues impacting brand reputation across the Eastern U.S. The role will serve as a key resource for the team, expertly pairing together insights from various internal resources and technologies to inform proactive and reactive communications strategy in several of American’s key markets.
The position will be part of a dynamic and collaborative team and will work closely with senior leaders in Global Engagement and other business units. We are seeking a communications professional who is a strategic thinker with deep media relations experience. The role will report to the Director of Global Communications and Public Affairs.
What you'll do
- Works with the Director of Global Communications and Public Affairs in developing and executing external communications strategies to achieve our business goals across the Eastern U.S. region
- Supports rapid response and crisis communications around the world, serving as a first point of contact for the Global Communications team on information that will guide media response, while flagging and escalating issues in real-time
- Works to translate complex data and information with relevant context into actionable insights that inform communications strategy
- Expertly gather background information that informs decisions and alignment among stakeholders from across the airline
- Lead data-driven storytelling initiatives in collaboration with the broader operations and communications teams
- Ability to work in a fast paced, 24/7 environment to support American's communications efforts

All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications or relevant field
- 6 years relevant work experience in communications in a corporate or agency setting
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- Previous experience with positively and effectively leading teams, internal and external partners, connecting workgroups and teams to ensure strategies and impacts are clearly understood
- Has a proven track record of creating and implementing new programs to evolve the communications function at a large company
- Experience working with members of the media and serving as on-record spokesperson representing a large, reputable organization. Preference given for experience working with media in Philadelphia, Charlotte and/or Washington, D.C.

- Ability to adapt and respond quickly to changing landscapes and to work well under pressure and tight deadlines

- Capable of anticipating needs and driving clarity on expectations
- High level of professionalism and discretion in handling confidential information
