Team Introduction
We are currently looking for a seasoned professional to join the Global Corporate and Policy Communications team as Head of Global Policy Communications. In this role, you will serve as the global communications strategist who will help advance our government relations work in key regions. We're looking for someone who has significant experience managing communications around complex legislative, regulatory, political, and crisis issues. The ideal candidate has excellent media relations skills, strong judgment, and experience building, developing, and managing a communications team. You are able to make decisions and move fast under pressure. You also know how to remove blockers and work cross-functionally to achieve alignment among internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Assess policy communications needs across regions and build out a team in key locations
- Develop and drive implementation of a global policy communications strategy
- Develop proactive campaign strategies to educate policymakers and users on key issues
- Build an arsenal of effective messaging on active policy issues
- Draft expert-level communications on behalf of the leadership team
- Work closely with the government relations and legal teams to align on strategic responses to incoming issues
- Ongoing engagement and education of the media, industry, and other stakeholders
- Prepare spokespeople for media interviews, policy meetings, and public appearances
- Provide ongoing counsel and thought partnership to the company's senior leaders to best position ByteDance in new and growing markets to achieve our business priorities
- 15+ years of policy communications experience
- Experience managing high-performing teams
- Policy communications experience in government and/or the technology industry
- Excellent strategic, analytical, and verbal communication skills
- Established relationships with key members of the media; reputation as a trusted source
- Deep understanding of regulatory, data security, and privacy landscape
- Ability to weigh big picture objectives with immediate business needs
- Previous experience working for a matrixed, multinational company
- Minimum BA or BS degree required
