Government Affairs Fellow / Part-Time Associate

Carlough Solutions, a bi-partisan consulting and advocacy firm, is seeking a highly motivated Government Affairs Fellow / Part-Time Associate to support our government affairs, public policy, research, and client engagement work in Washington, D.C.

Carlough Solutions works with companies and organizations navigating the federal policy and government affairs landscape. Our current clients span a diverse range of sectors, including transportation, government and management consulting, nonprofit organizations, the defense and industrial base, and emerging technology companies and Silicon Valley startups.

This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in federal government affairs and public policy while working directly with an experienced government affairs team. The position is well suited for current students, recent college graduates, and early-career professionals looking to build experience in government affairs, lobbying, public policy, communications, or related fields.

Position Overview

This is a paid, part-time position of approximately 15–20 hours per week, with flexibility around the candidate's academic or professional schedule.

The position is primarily remote, but candidates must be based in the Washington, D.C. area and be available to periodically attend congressional functions, client meetings, briefings, receptions, and other government affairs events in person.

Compensation: $25–$35 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Primary Responsibilities

• Monitor congressional activity, including legislation, hearings, committees, and member activity.
• Research federal legislation, regulations, appropriations, and policy developments relevant to clients.
• Track activity within key congressional committees and federal agencies.
• Prepare concise summaries, briefing materials, and client updates.
• Research industries, companies, federal programs, and emerging policy issues.
• Assist with preparation for congressional meetings, hearings, briefings, and other events.
• Research congressional offices, committees, agencies, and relevant stakeholders.
• Monitor relevant news coverage and public statements.
• Assist with client presentations, memos, newsletters, and other communications.
• Support special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current college student, recent college graduate, or early-career professional.
• Strong interest in government affairs, public policy, Congress, federal agencies, communications, or related fields.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to conduct effective research using primary and secondary sources.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Strong work ethic, professionalism, curiosity, and willingness to learn.
• Fluency in common social media platforms

A specific major is not required. Relevant backgrounds may include political science, government, public policy, communications, business, economics, history, journalism, international affairs, or related fields.
