Job Summary:
WHEDco seeks a full-time Health Education Coordinator who will lead WHEDco’s health education initiatives across three middle schools in the Bronx, beginning with the expansion of WHEDco’s Just Ask Me (JAM) program, a peer-educator-led sexuality and reproductive health and substance education program from its flagship location at PS/IS 218, to WHEDco’s two other partner schools, the Highbridge Green School and the South Bronx Early College Academy Charter School.
Responsibilities:
· Identify, develop, and implement curricula tailored for middle school students, emphasizing topics in health and wellness, such as cannabis/substance use and mental health.
· Improve existing curriculum and lead the delivery of the JAM Program for students in grades 6-8 across all three partner schools.
· Develop and disseminate educational materials and deliver workshops for families.
· Recruit, train, coordinate and supervise peer educators, including leading weekly training sessions using existing curriculum and materials.
· Co-facilitate and supervise all workshops conducted by peer educators.
· Collaborate with school leadership to identify opportunities to integrate into the school day, when appropriate, including facilitating workshops for students and staff.
· Provide support and guidance to staff on WHEDco’s Sexuality Guiding Principles.
· Collaborate with staff in other departments to strengthen health and health education initiatives across the organization.
· Other projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree required.
· Demonstrated background and experience in health education and/or health public policy.
· Minimum two years’ professional experience working with youth in a classroom, after-school, or community-based environment. Substantial volunteer work will be considered.
· Demonstrated training in the field of education with a focus on child development.
· Able to work late afternoons and/or evenings.
· Well organized, able to work both independently and collaboratively.
· Patient, genial demeanor, with a flexible “can-do” attitude.
· Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus, but not required.
Excellent benefits and competitive salary ($50,000 - $65,000) based on experience.
