We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Health Equity Senior Program Manager (Embedding Equity) on our Center for Health Equity team. As a Health Equity Senior Program Manager (Embedding Equity) you will be responsible for planning, managing and executing initiatives focused on embedding equity within the AMA. You will help build then implement the AMA’s embedding equity strategic approach, as well as help to lead the development and implementation of a health and racial equity coaching and consultation program across the AMA. As a Health Equity Senior Program Manager (Embedding Equity) you will serve as an operational leader for the Embedding Equity team to streamline and create efficiencies and identify opportunities to continually improve collaboration and grow internal and external partnerships for embedding equity, including consultation with external partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Development and Management
- Support the Director of Embedding Equity in strategic planning, ensuring cohesion and strategic alignment across the Center and the Embedding Equity team
- Develop, manage, and support implementation of a new AMA-wide equity coaching and consultation program. May include: building an intake/triage process for coaching/consultation requests; developing an evaluation framework to monitor the program; training internal equity coaches on how to coach and consult; troubleshooting issues, sharing best practices and identifying themes across the AMA
- Collaborate with HR to ensure alignment with coaches and consultations
- Provide subject matter expertise in operationalizing equity to AMA’s initiatives and business units
- Provide day-to-day management, planning and support to internal health equity programming
- Manage and coordinate the development and implementation of initiatives improving racial equity in health, including defining goals, setting key performance indicators, and tracking/reporting on progress
- Deliver program/projects tasks on time, with high quality and ensure that deliverables/milestones are met, budgets are adhered to, and resolve all issues as they arise; refine operational processes for practice to support consulting best practices
- Identify internal collaborators and foster opportunities to collaborate in health and racial equity across the AMA
- Support the Center in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with external organizations or key collaborators and/or relevant stakeholders.
Coaching and Consultation
- Provide consultation and coaching on health and racial equity to AMA business units on a variety of topics as they arise in business units
- Provide subject matter expertise to complement AMA staff learning in content areas such as: disability justice, racial equity, LGBTQ+ equity, and health equity
- Provide subject matter expertise to complement AMA staff learning in topic areas such as: institutional and structural racism, implicit bias
Staff Management
- Lead, mentor and provide management oversight for professional staff
- Responsible for setting objectives, evaluating performance, and developing staff; identify opportunities for advancing staff skills and expertise
Program Evaluation
- In partnership with the Center’s evaluation team and HR, manage all program evaluation components of AMA Embedding Equity initiatives
- Oversee evaluation of coaching and consultation program, including pre/post consultation evaluation surveys, short-term and long-term evaluation, and progress of business units over time
May include other responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferably in public health, healthcare management, public policy, social work, related fields highly preferred
- Minimum of 7 years of total public health and/or healthcare related work experience
- Professional experience engaging with disability communities, BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and/or intersections of these identities required
- Expertise in health and racial equity, trauma-informed approaches, institutional systems change, coaching, consulting, and/or facilitation required
- Minimum of 3 years public health/health care-focused experience in health and racial equity, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), or consulting
- Demonstrated experience with operational planning, budget planning, implementation and evaluation of multiple, complex projects including, convening project teams, organizing multi-faceted project plans, managing towards established timelines and project deliverables.
- Proven success and experience identifying, developing and maintaining partnerships and strong client/customer relationships
- Strong written and public speaking skills, including experience presenting and facilitating in a large group setting
- A strong aptitude for analytical/critical thinking and problem solving; experience using data (both quantitative and qualitative) to shape and launch program strategies or direction, and desire to use a variety of data to make decisions, back up proposals and forecasting, and measure program results
- Supervisory experience, including delegating work and fostering trust and collaboration within teams
- Some travel may be required
