Job Description
IEEE-USA Government Fellows: Bringing Technical Expertise to Capitol Hill
Deadline: 9 January 2026
For 50+ years, IEEE-USA has placed engineers, scientists, and other technical professionals in government roles to inform U.S. public policy with world-class expertise. Our Government Fellows program ensures that lawmakers have access to the knowledge needed to make sound, technically informed decisions on issues that affect our nation’s future.
Why It Matters
From energy and infrastructure to emerging technologies, Congress shapes policies that impact innovation, security, and economic growth. By serving as a Government Fellow, you’ll help bridge the gap between science and legislation.
What Fellows Do
Government Fellows work in congressional offices, committees, and federal agencies, providing technical insight on complex issues. Past fellows have contributed to legislation on cybersecurity, telecommunications, energy, and more—making a lasting impact on U.S. policy.
Spotlight: The New Electric Grid Policy Fellowship
Starting in 2026, IEEE-USA is introducing the Congressional Electric Grid Policy Fellowship, a unique opportunity for qualified IEEE members to help inform U.S. energy policy on Capitol Hill.
The U.S. power system is the backbone of our economy, yet it faces unprecedented challenges. Congress sets priorities that affect grid modernization, resilience, and sustainability. Fellows placed through this program will work directly with offices and committees shaping grid policy—bringing technical expertise to decisions that impact millions of Americans.
