PUBLIC RELATIONS SENIOR ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE, ADVOCACY PRACTICE

We are looking for a creative, high-energy, self-starter with experience working on city or state public policy issues through government, political campaigns, advocacy, public affairs, or journalism, along with excellent oral and written communications skills and experience with traditional and social media. Candidates should have a demonstrated interest in government and advocacy, and understand how strategic communications can advance policy goals and influence public debate.
This position may be based in either our New York City office or remotely in Albany. Candidates should be able to work from one of these locations on a regular basis.
JOB REQUIREMENT
Work with colleagues to formulate and execute communications programs for a variety of clients. Specific responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic communications guidance.
- Drafting press materials (e.g., press releases).
- Managing press interviews and events.
- Developing stories and pitching reporters.
- Helping to maintain social media accounts.
- Drafting newsletters, op-eds, testimony for government hearings, website copy, and speeches.
- Drafting donor and participant communications.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience in one or more of the following: state or local government (including working for an elected official or government agency), journalism (covering politics and/or government), political campaigns or public affairs communication. Experience working on New York City or New York State policy, advocacy, or political issues is strongly preferred.
- Creative, strategic thinker, always on the lookout for innovative ways to promote a client, program, or story.
- Motivated, detail-oriented, and organized self-starter capable of managing multiple projects and ensuring successful execution.
- Team player willing to support a team of professionals to consistently improve service and outcomes.
- Experience developing and executing successful multi-channel communications programs with measurable goals.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong multitasker who thrives under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated understanding of how advocacy campaigns influence public policy through communications, media relations, coalition-building, and engagement with government stakeholders.
- Values diverse experiences.
- Outstanding relationship-building and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong familiarity with and interest in New York City and New York State news media.
- Strong understanding of New York City and/or New York State government, policymaking, and the legislative process.
- Experience managing and growing social media accounts.
- Existing relationships with reporters, policymakers, advocates, or other stakeholders in New York City's or New York State's government, politics, and public policy ecosystem are a plus.
SALARY
$80,000–$120,000, commensurate with experience and skills.
