Job Description

The Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the United Nations is seeking a motivated intern to support the Mission's preparations for the General Assembly's High Level Week in New York. Working closely with Mission staff, the intern will assist with research, event coordination, and communications in the lead-up to and during the High Level Week. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in multilateral diplomacy and the day-to-day workings of a UN Permanent Mission. This is a short-term position between 7 September 2026 - 7 October 2026.


Please note that the Mission is unable to provide work authorization in the United States for this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend official meetings and side events during High Level Week and prepare timely written reports, notes, and briefings for internal circulation.
  • Assist with protocol, logistical and administrative arrangements for official visits of delegations from the Government of Maldives to New York.
  • Support the organization of meetings, conferences, events, and receptions hosted or attended by the Mission.
  • Assist in drafting statements, talking points, briefing notes, background papers and other written materials
  • Conduct research and prepare concise briefs on matters assigned by the Mission
  • Undertake other reasonable duties assigned by the Head of Chancery or designated Mission staff.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to manage competing deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong research skills and high attention to detail.
  • Strong interest in international affairs and the work of the UN.
  • Be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the contract.
  • Proficiency with common office software (e.g., word, spreadsheets, presentations) and comfort working in a professional office environment.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in International Relations, Political Science, Public Policy, Area Studies, History, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience in the UN system is strongly preferred.


Schedule

This is a short term, full-time role from September 7th, 2026 to October 7th, 2026. The position will be in-person 5 days a week from 9am-5pm. Hours will increase during the High Level Week (September 22-September 28), and interns will be expected to stay beyond typical hours for this period.


Compensation

The internship is unpaid. The intern is not entitled to wages, a stipend, compensation or employment benefits from the Mission for the duration of the placement.
