KJ for Congress is a people-powered, grassroots campaign dedicated to serving the families of South Carolina’s 1st US Congressional District. Our mission is to build a locally-focused movement that prioritizes the issues and voices of the Lowcountry now, and into the future. We believe in opening the doors of public service to everyone, ensuring that those who want to make a difference have a seat at the table.

Role Description

The KJ for Congress Fellowship is a hands-on, 10-hour-per-week commitment designed to provide practical experience in the core functions of a federal campaign. Fellows will work in one or more primary departments to gain a well-rounded understanding of political operations:

  • Policy & Communications: Drafting policy briefs, writing issue summaries, and creating social media content.
  • Grassroots Organizing: Engaging voters through phone banking, street teaming, event tabling, and recruiting volunteers.
  • Campaign Operations: Assisting with event logistics and staff events.

This role is based in the SC Lowcountry, and offers a unique opportunity to help shape the issues that matter most to locals.

Qualifications

  • Experience Level: No prior campaign experience is required; we provide all necessary training and support. In-person and remote applicants are encouraged to apply.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to explain campaign priorities in clear, accessible language for digital and print content.
  • Interpersonal Strengths: Comfort with public-facing tasks such as event tabling and voter outreach.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to support behind-the-scenes administrative and logistical work to keep the campaign moving.
  • Commitment: Ability to dedicate 10 hours per week to the program.
  • Mission Alignment: A passion for grassroots organizing and a desire to be part of a meaningful community effort.
