Job Summary:

Hui Huliau is currently seeking a Legal Affairs Coordinator. The qualified candidate will be responsible for supporting governance, contracting, and compliance activities for the organization and its affiliates. Hands-on experience, direct interaction with leadership and board members. Meaningful exposure to nonprofit governance and Native Hawaiian Organization issues. A key responsibility includes attending board meetings and supporting the organization’s mission.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Governance & Board Support
  • Support nonprofit and corporate governance for the NHO and affiliated entities
  • Prepare and maintain bylaws, resolutions, policies, minutes, and corporate records
  • Attend board and committee meetings, as requested
  • Take minutes, track action items, and assist with follow-through
  • Support board communications, notices, and meeting coordination

 

Contracts & Federal Programs

  • Draft, review, and organize NDAs, Teaming Agreements, MOUs, and similar agreements
  • Assist with compliance and documentation related to SBA 8(a) and other federal programs applicable to NHOs
  • Support subcontractor and vendor agreements
  • Coordinate with outside counsel as needed

 

Legal Research & Administrative Support

  • Conduct legal and regulatory research related to nonprofits, NHOs, and government contracting
  • Maintain organized legal and corporate files
  • Track deadlines, reporting obligations, and compliance requirements
  • Assist with special projects and organizational initiatives

 

Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong writing, organization, and communication skills required
  • Familiarity with basic contract concepts required
  • Ability to attend in-person meetings in Honolulu required
  • Professional, reliable, and comfortable handling confidential matters required
  • Interest in nonprofit governance, federal contracting, or public service–oriented legal work preferred

 

Education and Experience:

  • Require one of the following: Paralegal certificate; Current law student (JD candidate); Juris Doctor (licensed or license-eligible in Hawai?i preferred, but not required)
  • Experience with nonprofits or mission-driven organizations preferred
  • Familiarity with Native Hawaiian Organizations or Native Hawaiian–serving entities preferred
  • Exposure to SBA 8(a), government contracting, or FAR concepts preferred
  • Prior experience supporting or attending board or committee meetings preferred

 

This position will generally encompass a standard work week spanning Monday through Friday during regular business hours. This position is remote with travel to business meeting site as required.
